All I have to say is "holy sh*t." For such a small file, Steam takes up to 30 seconds to load on my computer. It seems to be running fine (for now) but I'd just like to say this load time is pissing me off.
Oh, that, and half the time it takes an additional 20 seconds to begin responding...
Okay, now I'm pretty sure none of you people in here trust Vivendi Universal about what they say when it comes to HL2's ship date, but I just want to share the information that I was talking to a Vivendi rep just 30 minutes ago in a GameStop near my house and he said that there is a good (or bad...
The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro is up to 15% faster at higher resolutions. At resolutions 1024x768 and lower, the cards are pretty much the same. IT HAS BEEN TESTED AND BENCHMARKED OVER AND OVER AGAIN, AND THE ATI ALWAYS (or doesnt sometimes because of the nVidia driver cheats) COMES OUT ON TOP. I don't...

What do you all think about this? Obviously he's just making a rough estimate, but I'm happy about this since I've been wondering what fps my new super computer could get.
:bounce:
3DMark03 IS ALMOST ENTIRELY DEPENDANT ON THE VIDEO CARD AND ITS PERFORMANCE to create its benchmarking scores. Therefore, if you upgrade your CPU, memory (unless its below 512mb), or HDD, you wont get a much better score. It DOES help, but not as much as it should.
To answer your question: No, it really shouldn't. They both use the same chipset (ATI 9800 Pro). Usually there isn't a big difference in performance among vendors. What you should be looking for is the minor things: What cooling it has, what comes bundled with it (unless you want an OEM) etc...
Well I guess I will brag as well. I just bought a new system:
Price: $2750 US (from Alienware, don't flame me - I got a discount and I used it, hehe).
Motherboard: Intel® Desktop Board D875PBZ - Intel 875P
CPU: Intel® P4 Processor 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB w/ 512KB Cache & HT
RAM: 1GB Corsair...
Well I got a 5787 on 3DMark03 stock w/o overclock. I'm thinking that anything above 5000 or so should HL2 perfectly with max settings, 4600-4999 fair with max settings, and anything below 4599 you should probably not use max settings. But these are just predictions. That and benchmarks don't...
Hey I'm just wondering about the AA troubles. It seems they have been fixed for nVidia cards, but I just bought a new computer with a Radeon 9800 and I was wondering if anyone has heard about anything on the ATI side. ;(
Thanks
Hey to all the hardware freaks here!
I just bought a new desktop PC with Corsair XMS RAM modules. I've heard Corsair XMS is the way to go when buying a high-end gaming PC, but I'm confused over what makes it better. Anyone know? :cheese:
Look, I'm not an outrageously stupid fanboy like you are Shad0hawK, but I would like to point out another reason ATI is stomping nVidia right now (besides that nVidia cards have NO CHANCE of working with HL2 with AA on):
