You must not have much experience with ebay.
I just got the game in the mail today. Came with a legit cd-key, as stated in the item description when you bid on it. The only thing missing are the box and instruction manual, as described (its an oem title).
I have bought stuff from this...
Not surprising there was never a playable demo for the original Half-life either. A game like this doesn't need one. The E3 video previews are more then enough for most people. If for some reason you remain skeptical I suggest you wait for the reviews to come out.
Looks like a nice FPS action/RPG hybrid that is heavy on both. With multiple story-lines and lots of cool vampire attacks. This will be on my list for sure (after HL2).
Source-powered game!

I don't usually play RPG games, but this could be an exception.
Doom 3 looks good but the thing that kills it for me is the level design as seen in the trailer. They look so plain. There's nothing I hate more than smallish, boxy level design. That and a game where everything is so damn dark you can barely see 2 feet in front of your face. Graphic-wise, the...
I just won a copy from an ebay auction. Its going for only $3-$5 now, so I thought what the hell.
What do you think of it (if you played it)? How was the story?
id games have always sucked story-wise.
HL single-payer story isn't great either. But it did have an acceptable story and most importantly great gameplay which made you want to play all the way through the single-player game.
Has iD ever once put a decent story into their games? Never, not...
What would be cool for single-player:
When you are killed and have to reload the scene, enemies don't always spawn in the same place. Random enemy spawns and random number of enemies every time you play through the same level.
I hope that is what Valve means when they say no-scripting.
Yes, co-op has been done with Sven, but server crashes are frequent when you play it. Its not easy to implemet co-op without a lot of technical problems, which is why FPS games tend not to have it.
I doubt there will be co-op in the game, unless maybe it is LAN-only co-op.
I read an interview with a Halo develeoper who said it is difficult to synchronize the actions of 2 or more players in a co-op situation. Especially when they are playing in two different areas of the map.
*Running out of gas*
It would be cool if fuel isn't unlimited like it is in every other game with vehicles in it. I hate that in driving games. Its like having unlimited ammo. It cheapens the gameplay.
How about a mission where the object is to capture a human enemy without killing him. You need him alive to interrogate and get some some important information out of him. Some pepper spray could come in handy. It would be cool to spray someone and watch them writhing in pain as you wack them...
Must-have weapons:
.50 caliber rifle
pocket knife
bear trap
blow torch
flyable blackhawk helicopter with mounted gun and rockets
jet pack
shrink ray
fish net
That is all.
This time from GameSpot, for anyone who might be curious. I only read some of it, but this sums it up:
"It's not that there weren't plenty of great-looking games at E3, because there certainly were. It's just that none really compared to Half-Life 2. It's like we were looking at a game from...
I just switched from cable to Pac Bell DSL. Cheaper than cable and still plenty fast ($34.95/month vs $47.50 a month for Adelphia cable). Best thing about it is that it uses your existing phone line so you can surf the net and talk on the phone at the same time.
