Inebriation aside, I know what you mean. It was somehow satisfying to be able to help friends through this game without ever actually pushing them to do anything specific. For me, the phrase was "just look up," since that was the thing that stumped all of them, for some reason. The phrase...
As much as I would cream my jeans if they announced another Half-Life or Portal game, what I want most from Valve right now (game-wise) is some new IP. Preferably (in my opinion) something mostly linear and narrative-driven, since Valve are already sitting on top of such enormous multiplayer...
To this day, I still don't fully understand the hate that Infinite gets. I had a ton of fun with it. I'm not saying it was better or worse than anything else, just that I had a lot of fun with it. And that's all I expect from video games: fun.
It's also worth noting that each YouTube video description for the talks contains links to that specific talk's presentation slides in both PDF and PPT format. I've updated the post to reflect that.
When people ask what I want in a new Valve game, my answer is always the same, so instead of re-writing my answer for the third time, I'll just quote myself:
As much as I love the first Half-Life, I still can't play through the whole thing without cheating. I didn't start playing video games until about 2010, so all those older games with much steeper difficulty curves still murder me. BUT I am working on getting better.

Ever since learning about Valve’s developer-only conference Steam Dev Days back in October 2013, the internet has wondered what interesting new revelations might come from the no-press-allowed event. Luckily for those of us not in the developer community, some attendees have been contributing to...
As I mentioned in this thread a while back, the feature I most want to see in Source 2 (from a player standpoint) is dynamic map loading. That is, you could be playing a level, and as you progress through the stage, the game is consistently loading the next map, effectively eliminating load...
Writing dialogue that includes Gordon without him ever talking must be difficult enough. Writing that same dialogue without him even having a name? Fugedaboudit!
Thanks for sharing this. I've updated the article with the full video, as well as the transcript to reflect the entire event. (A lot of extra transcribing has been done.)
Yesterday, Gabe Newell took to the stage at International CES to officially unveil the first generation of Steam Machines. During his very brief on-stage appearance, after revealing the partner hardware units, Gabe confirmed that controllers will be sold separately, and independent developers...
