broke.... just found a problem :(
I'm also running it on a dedicated linux server right now, although it's on my home connection so it's limited to 6 players. It should be redirecting connections to my page to download the map automatically, though.
I've tried to do that myself, and keep it to one beta release. The community at large can offer a lot more criticism then just a few friends, and may have a wider range of hardware on which problems might crop up.
He might be talking about some of the areas under the terrain. Wherever there is an unseen textured surface, at least part of it is visible somewhere. There are actually quite a few large brushes in there taking up space.
I think the biggest hardware demands occur because of all the physics...

While I have enlarged it from the beta, it's still a small map. Based on the performance of the beta online, I felt a small map was more conducive to a good...
Original question: what makes a map fun.
Your answer: it's fun if it's fun.
Flow is one of the elements that makes a map fun, not secondary to it. You should never hit a dead end. You should never get caught on terrain. You should be constantly rewarded for movement (via weapons and combat...
I wouldn't think you'd be obligated to share the prize with someone who helped test or criticize. I wouldn't expect that at all if I were to test a map for someone. Criticizing eachother's work and offering help is what makes a community. Demanding compensation for that help would be absurd.
The didn't say anything about signatures as far as I know, but they did stipulate that the map couldn't use any custom textures (like a custom decal with your signiture, for example).
I know. I thought that was a pretty good idea (you could sign your map like a painter signs a painting: with your actual signiture), but didn't want to do it on this map for that reason.
Everyone is suggesting hiding themselves within the map. What I was really asking is about presenting yourself along with your work. In the world of film, or television, or any other kind of art, the creators are usually as well known as their works, to some degree. Anyone could probably name...
I'm just now running through the last compile or two for my map. One of the finishing touches I added was a brief gameplay instruction on the maps load that then fades out after 30 seconds, just giving people a hint that they may not be aware of. Now, I come from the Unreal mapping community...
Hell, I have no idea then. Like I said, I basically just plucked it out of lockdown exactly, and in the sample it works. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
I've picked apart the respawning barrel logic system from DM_Lockdown, since it seems as if many people are having problems. This will prevent you barrels from losing their "burn before exploding" behavior after respawning.
First of all, your going to need the following entities:
1)...
I got it working if you need some help with it. The only issue is that with their logic, barrels only respawn as a group once all of them are destroyed.
I got some weird cubemapping artifacts on my gun. I'm unsure if it's the map or my install.
It's quite a long way to get up there, and you don't get any sort of reward for your trouble. I'd either make a ladder up, so it's not sort of a distant point with no reason to get there, or put...
