Sorry to disappoint but the Gold package doesn't come with the Raising the Bar book. It comes with the full strat guide, but the other is sold seperately. (I'm not disappointed, they actually mentioned this some time ago. I'll just buy it over Amazon later). -UnmarkedOne

It's true :) I thought I'd hold off on buying games till HL2 came out, but I work at a game store and that copy of San Andreas was teasing me every day. Between reading the strategy guide that was sitting there and checking the high reviews it was getting online, I knew I had to have it...

And the 20-hour time was completed on Normal mode. If you're playing on Hard and you're dying more, replaying more, and being more cautious in general, the game is going to give you at least 5-10 more hours. I always, always find games more rewarding on Hard. Deus Ex and Doom 3 come to mind...

Why wait? You get everything you need for HL2 if you buy over Steam, plus CS:S right now. What's so great about the box? Gotta see it from Valve's point of view, though. They make a lot more hard-earned money through a Steam sale than a retail sale (between two and three times as much), so...

Nah Dark, you're not missing much. The completely reflective water, shiny surfaces, etc will show up in DX8. The one major difference is that the shiny effects in DX8 are quite a bit more pronounced, often to the point of being unrealistic, and in some cases, things that aren't supposed to...
