Spamming... what you lack in quality, you make up in quantity.
Also a shot of one of the vehicles, in the third pic. Reflective water in the fourth, and a picture that fell off the wall and got wedged behind the couch. Physics are fun!

More shots!
Check the second screenshot, how the water between the bricks reflects the lighted wall realistically. Some of those effects are downright jawdropping. Third screenshot has the same effect, but it's reflecting the sky color.
The fourth shot shows off the 3D skybox, and how...
Yeah I noticed that, the detail is incredible. The pictures fall off the walls when you shoot them, the side of the computer case falls off, you can even shoot the ram and heatsink off of the broken computer's motherboard.

Yeah, it's strange looking. If you look at the player models, they're all leaning forward, hunched over, so your eyes are about chest-level with the hostages.
So yeah, the hostages look like giants compared to everyone else. I wish they'd adjust the player eye-height a little, because...
My second computer is running a GeForce4 ti4600, which isn't a DX9-based card, but the guy in front of the fire shows up just fine, distorted water texture and all.

Speaking of... how 'bout some more cool effects :D
The third screenshot of the wood isn't that great, but the wood all over that level looks really good in action. Most of it is very subtly reflective and shimmers as you walk around the rooms. Valve did an awesome job of making killer effects...
The first three are just various sunflares that look pretty remarkable when you see them in motion, and still decent in a screenshot.
The Glass5 shot is a window that I just broke out, and the pieces are of course all physicalized. When they come to rest, each has a reflection map on it, so...
These first two shots show better how you can break models into smaller and smaller pieces.
The last three shots show off the water effects. Water1 is me standing in the water, and it's almost transparent up close (though in the game it distorts the ground quite a bit, so it's much easier to...
More pics:
Cover - Some cover (physicalized, of course) to hide behind in Office.
Decals - Nice shot of the detail they put into the blood decals.
Flare - The great sun/sky effects really make the levels seem alive.
Organic - The levels look SO much better with an upped poly count...
A few examples of destroyable models. The first two shots show how you can actually break chunks off of the flat-screens in the Office level. It looks good in the shots but amazing in motion, you'd have to see it yourself. The way the monitor sparks and falls off of the table realistically is...
Hey guys, just posting some screenshots of different Source engine effects for the people still stuck at work, or for those unable to run CS:S for some reason.
The first three shots are effects much like the shiny floor in Dust, though it's great to finally see some variety.
The last two...
Anyone get this subscription pending box yet? It doesn't matter, because I was able to update CS:S and am playing now, but I just hadn't seen any other posts about this yet. It doesn't give me any more info. Wonder if I'll get an email or some kind of confirmation from Valve later. Ah well, CS:S...
What do you mean you're not the only one who didn't read it carefully? I think you were the only one who was left out. We've all known for some time that CS:S would be released first, and HL2 weeks or months later.
I know that's gotta be disappointing for you, so I don't mean to be harsh, but...
Not that anyone's still reading this long-ass thread, but:
I haven't read a single thing saying you'd be able to upgrade. The only 'upgrading' I've heard of is the ability that ATI-voucher-holders have (by the way, I think they only get this option once, you can't use your voucher to buy...
I'm still going Gold. I was just relieved to see that they ended up charging less than a hundred. The way I look at it is this: essentially the Gold is $30 extra (because Silver is a WAY better deal than Bronze. I couldn't stand not having DoD and HL in Source, so I'd at the very least buy...
Here's a question: is there any benefit to Valve for having their game chosen as GOTY? A little more publicity can't hurt HL2, but at the same time, won't almost all gamers eventually own it anyway?

I read the review scores but not the reviews themselves. I don't really care which parts the reviewer didn't like, because it'll probably be different for me. I just wanted to get a good general idea of what other games HL2 compared with.
