well, I just got myself an old audigy gamer off ebay for 38 bucks shipped or something in that general area. I'm very happy with it, and it runs my Logitech Z640's and my 2 sennheiser headphone/sets just fine. Much clearer then the onboard sound.
What I'm saying is don't be afraid to buy last...
update your drivers, video, sound, motherboard. could also be overheating, check for dust in your heatsinks. If you put together your copmputer yourself you know what to check for, if not, just dust out the insides. update directx.
actually the reference to 1984 may not be so implausable, there are many other nods in that direction. It's been a while since I've read that Orwellian masterpeice, but perhaps I'll pick it back up.
I thought the combine baby one said caste too... I love the depth behind this game. It's even...
yeah, he says so in the first post.
and RJMC, amount of video memory does not promise performance. compare the 256mb Radeon 9200 to the 128mb Radeon 9800. The 9800 has far better performance.
I've no doubt anandtech and Tom's Hardware are working on in depth, accurate (not to say these aren't) benchmarks. I'd expect to see them within the next two days.
from Tom's Hardware:
Unlike some others, when we are done we will give you a complete review, and shortly thereafter...
I'm suprised that we have yet to see a TV ad for HL2. Vivendi usually does a good job of advertisement.
Seen the massive ads for call of duty: finest hour? Even an add in movie previews would be cool.
We need some of that for HL2!

honestly, there is no reason to get anything other than this headset.
I find it extremely amusing that you can't spell. Even more so the fact that you spelled throat "frote." Do you mind if I use that?
oh, and x-ray spelled exray.
and what is fort? "i fort that it was a good job..."
are you 8 years old? if you are, then the grammar, punctuation, spelling...
hey, theroadtonowhere, I think I see membership in a band in your future! Do you play any instruments? Like the Suxaphone perhaps?
Honestly, if you want to stay in our friendly forums, you're going to need to deal with your attitude.
Note: Results are all backwards, fps should be increasing as cpu increases

I was interested in looking into the correlation between cpu speed and hl2/source/css performance.
I found that with my PC, described at the bottom of this post, there was little change in performance of the video stress test with varying cpu speed.
Tests were taken with the following...
