Snazzy? I must be one of the very few that's totally unimpressed by it, lol... (ok, I admit: the jet engine on the last image is looking good). The more I look at them and compare with "old" JO technology, the more unimpressed I am.
And the map makes much sense, not even a bush? :)
That is a blatantly obvious test map, with focused vehicles and bases, most likely played by the either the magazine people or beta testers to produce "combat" images. Wouldnt even surprise me if they are in some sorts debug mode where they...
There are so many... Cant really say what the most enjoyable is. Games I really remember though: Thief II, JK II, I-War II, SoF II, GTA II, DK II, WC II... Err... Anyone else than me see a connection? :p
Edit: Oh, and I forgot Gothic II. And BG II. Maybe Tribes II.
Very obvious indeed ;)
JO definetly has the right idea, although there arent nearly as much advanced stuff as in BF, they are FAR more impressive in size. It feels like real vehicles, not toys.
Lighting is also much better, if you look at the images you will notice it looks basicly like a...
Argh! I hope they fix the lighting on soldiers. It suffers the same problems as BFV, its not camouflage at all, its neon cover.
The soldiers also look WAY oversized, lol... Much worse than in BF1942 and BFV.
The explosions arent very pretty either.
The water is just... Pathetic.
But...
Well it will surly gather a crowd (its Star Wars after all), but 32 players is just... weak. After playing JO I wont settle for 32 players in an online game unless its got really small maps (CS style, BF1942 city maps, etc). How are Battlefront maps?
Hm... Sounds extremely similar to a certain other vampire game using the HL2 engine ;)
But its a good idea nonetheless, even if its already done. I like vampires :)
Well I prefer style in front of realism in terms of graphics engines, so I'm not impressed... There comes a time when you have to ask yourself: Why do I need a 1000 poly can with bumpmapping and per pixel lighting??? :p
The beta was pretty boring... Personally I think new online games are becoming too complicated. In Ryzom they split every race up to their respective world when starting, thinning the player counts... And then those lands had like 3-4 "towns", making it even more spread out. In the end any sort...
If they gave it THAT high score, you just HAVE TO continue be able to do incest between your emperor/general and his daughters!!! :E
(most worthless features ever to grace the gaming industry)
Why? Because its proven technology. It WORKS. Its FAST. And its RELIABLE.
Something you usually cant say about new games. Look at the CoD UO movie, and you'll see its still stunningly beautifull, easily holding up to modern games. That is because the Quake 3 (Arena) engine predates the time...
I must be one of the few that thought AoD was pretty neat (once one get past the first level, that's not very interesting).
Personally I think its a very good idea to continue the series, but it definetly needs a rather big revival in terms of gameplay and control... And I dont really know...
Its so nice that more and more developers refer to them as "open beta", when it really is the regular demo. So call it "open beta" and ignore some of the bugs; voila, a demo where people say "Oh this is a bug... Ah, its a beta, not a demo, no problem!".
