Heh. Unsuprisingly (and I have this from someone on the FC dev team), all of far crys monster & level design/art was made after the first shots of the Hellknight showed up.
So it would probably be fairer the other way around. Much like many of FC's internal sections, 'inspired' much? :lol...
Heh To be fair that's hardly basis for comparison. The HL scene is much more interesting while they seem to have gone out of their way to provide an uninteresting Far Cry shot.
Anyway were either shot a direct screen rather than a poorly done shot from a monitor there might be something to...
I think it was more to do with the bile directed at him by the community at large when he came out and said 'it's not going to be out' and I can imagine knowing as it seems he did that was the case, but basically having that denied by people who should have known better and having people declare...
I'm prepared to bet Gabe wouldn't deny that the game wasn't ready for release by the 30th and frankly its their prevarication over announcing that the release was delayed that has led to the total breakdown in trust you're seeing meaning that yes, in many peoples eyes, Fragmaster does have more...
Like I said, I genuinely believe they didn't. Although IIRC the video cards release was pretty near the magic date and they might have mentioned it then.
Pff. :dozey:
I think whatever the hacker stole is really beside the point, Fragmaster is independantly 'confirming' that there's no way the finished product was going to be ready by Sept 30th.
He doesn't say the hacker got everything that was there. Just that his claim Valve weren't ready to release...
Indeed, ultimately that's what will happen, people will judge the game on its merits against what else is out there.
(Or as seems to happen more often these days against a game that may or may not be coming out in a few months/years) ;)
Lets just hope we're not judging it against Unreal2k9.
You'd have to ask Valve that question.
Personally I believe they genuinely thought theycould provide the game by that date, a lot of the groundwork had been done, they just needed to get the content sorted out. I think they were simply caught out by the time consumption of creating content...
Personally whatever finally shows up in the gamer and zone magazines I will still be slightly cautious about letting myself believe the game's nearly done, or even about to go gold. That scepticism will treble if they've only played levels that we have seen before.
Ho hum.
I'm going to...
It's really a matter of what you do IN those large environments to be honest. The opening mars surface map according to Fredo Nillsen is about 10 times the size of the mpterra2 map from Clan Arena when you zoom fully out and a person walking on it is teeny weeny.
Obviously all that doesn't...
I don't disagree at all. although funnily enough I think it's partly thanks to the base of the Quake engine.
Compared to the floaty UT2K3 or the lithtech powered games the id engines have always felt very 'solid' to me when you move around in them.
Yeah, C&C Generals & Diablo II multiplayer suck ass for exactly the same reason. :dozey:
Anyhoo, the official word last month was 'we have at least 4 months left but it's all tuning, the levels themselves are completed'. Which sticks them more or less on April I guess. Ho hum.
The few screenshots I have seen have evidently been taken on lesser specced PC's because they've looked pretty poor/average to me, the textures look 'ehhh' and the models have looked less than stellar to be brutally frank..
A lot of stuff in them clearly needed more work.
I've come to...
I actually started on the download and then cancelled it, so as yet I have been more or less untainted by the stolen 'beta'. From reports I've read and screenies I've seen there's obviously lots to do/missing from the stuff that did get thieved so I don't feel I'm really missing out.
I'd...
From the way they shift in the video (I don't have the stolen 'beta', I can't say I really approve, although the devil on my shoulder keeps urging me to get it) I suspect they are kind of a halfway house. They're imposter sprites which would be replaced as and when you get closer.
No fuss about the flaming.
I was including the rooftop video in my assertion that it can be done though. There's a few natty work arounds and tricks that enable you to do that sort of thing. Mostly involving the use of imposters in the distance (much like Valve use there I...
To be fair it's also the day the creators of games have to build every room of ever level of a building that you might otherwise walk straight past. Complete freedom of movement in anything even faintly resembling a real environment means an astronomical content creation overhead.
Bleh, we'd...
