Heh. Unsuprisingly (and I have this from someone on the FC dev team), all of far crys monster & level design/art was made after the first shots of the Hellknight showed up.

So it would probably be fairer the other way around. Much like many of FC's internal sections, 'inspired' much? :lol:

Does anyone know the poly count for the models? It must be rediculously low...

looks nice. its the first time ive been able to look at one up close, usually all the "light effects" hide its true form.

This screenshot is so great!! I would cry if my comp was able to render something as beautifull as this in realtime.
 
Looks good to me :)

If you're playing a game and have time to notice things like poly count then it's not a very good one.

My thoughts exactly...I reckon it probably does look better moving but most developers excluding, it seems, Valve release screenshots that look good.



On another note...I already get motion blur with this LCD monitor :x

all doom3 character models range from 2000-6000 polies.

There is shadowing in that pic... If you look you can see the shadow of the creatures right hand bieng cast onto its right leg (the one thats to the left of the screen) and the creatures chin casts a shadow onto its chest.

It wasnt that the shadowing wasn't there...it just looked rather "skewy". Im not sure how to describe it, but it was sharp and hardlined. And that motion blur looks stupid...Im sure the added it after but it kind of just makes the rest of the picture look bad.
 
The game does honestly look better in motion. But I'm in agreement with everyone else. That screen looks off, partly due to the very low poly count in the model, and partly due to the fact that the shadowing looks off (motion blur sucked as well). Still, it's really not a good idea to judge a games graphical quality from screens alone. Sometimes great animation makes all the difference.
 
and people tell me doom 3 looks better then source, Cryengine, and whatever Stalker uses...

What is the deal .....is it just me or are hl2 and D3 looking worse and worse.....

I totally agree with you. It pisses me off sometimes about nothing ever being good enough then HL2 for all this fanboys.
 
the screenshot looks f..... great. that thing in motion must be amazing.
