Huh. News to me. My hands were reaching over to my XBox controller to check this out, when suddenly I remembered I had lent my console (games and all) to a friend for an unspecified amount of time.
Personally, I feel Ep. 3 will have to shed a lot of its HL2nes to feel truly next-gen. Changing up the skins in the ways metnioned above will be one of many thing sthey'll need to do to achieve this.
Hmmm, yeah, the worst place for that is just before you enter the central auto-gun area in Ep. 2. Identical zombies just trapesing into your path, seemingly at timed intervals. Godd if your fishing for the "Bonebreaker" achievement; bad if your fishing for an immersive gaming experience.
The sound you speak of can be heard at 45:02 of the HL2 commentary known so well to all of us here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=894488339656427727&q=half-life+commentary&total=137&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0
Exactly. Electronic gaming is an evolving art form and that "impression of variety" is one of those things which should be de rigeur by now. We didn't complain about seeing the same pedestrian skins over and over again during the GTA 3 triology, but we'll be expecting something a little deeper...
Yeah, I know it's not a huge deal, but I'd like to see characters like Sheckley and Leon given skins that don't look like any of the generic skins. It would just make them feel more special, IMO. It's widely agreed that the HL2 games bring their NPCs to life better than other games and seeing...
Did anyone else notice an odd little similarity Bioshock had to HL2. Ep. 1? In the Rapture Central Control area, security photographs of the player character, Jack, can be found. IIRC, an image of Gordon (and possibly also one of Alyx) be seen on a Combine data screen near the core early on in...
Having just finished Bioshock, I can say there was a minute there when it seemed like it might eclipse HL2 for me. The whole confrontation with Ryan 2/3 of the way through was pretty mighty, I thought. Much more than the so called "twist" involving identity, the introduction of mind-control...
Thse extraneous Big Daddies are great if you have the hypnotize plasmid equipped. They'll take down whole rooms full of splicers and occasionally bosses as well. I even managed to start a Bouncer on Bouncer fight in Hepaestus. Classic stuff.
Nope, harvesting just one is enough to get you the milder of the two evil endings and it isn't much milder. I'm guessing that if you did, in fact, harvest a little one, you reloaded your game afterwards.
When I first picked up Half-Life 2, I'd been off video games for some time and I was totally fine with it. Then one day I somehow got to flipping around Wikipedia in search of something interesting to read and, while browsing through the entry on HL2 I became intrigued with the whole mythology...
A far more obvious connection to draw would be with the series's famous sulking couple, as they are always seen sitting on a couch.
My guess would have been that it was a red herring to make us think the couple had snuffed it at some point, though of course we see both of them alive and well...
I thought the final task in the core puzzle was really clever. More than that though, it just felt neat to be in the actual puzzle.
As for comparing HL2's puzzles with POrtal's, I don't think it's really fair given that:
1. Portal is a puzzle game whereas HL2 is a shooter and, as such, not...
One thing I've noticed about HL2's puzzles is that they become far less problem solving-oriented after you've acquired the gravity gun. From Ravenholm on, the puzzles are less about thinking about solutions than they are about manipulating the environment with your new tool.
That said, I...
