I'd rather it that people make hype for a mod when there's a real good chance of it being released. There are just so many mod's that just have websites and concpet art, that I refuse to beleive them.

Well see that's the thing. I couldn't find any mech based mods being made, and the only ones that have either good proof of concept or have been released (Orbit Wars:NeoCairo, Gundam Universe...) are basically giant armor "shoot fests".

I don't know if this is specifically to half-life 2, but I'd say innovation. Look at how Gabe talks about how much he isn't doing with the Source engine, and when you look at it it isn't because those added features aren't infeasible (seeing as he says it would be easy for mod developers to do)...
