The Gathering Storm is set to release on October 27th. First 2 chapters have been posted somewhere as previews (1st chapter as text, and the 2nd chapter from the audio book I think).

I'd say the quality of Martin's work is worth the wait. I am looking forward to the next Wheel of Time book, though.

I'm guessing they'll film through most of November, finish post by the end of the year, and we'll have a full season order early next year (January or February), and we'll be watching season 1 of A Game of Thrones some time later next year. Frustrating have to wait so long for it, but I suppose...

A few of these haven't been officially confirmed, but odds are pretty good that this is the cast.

I believe it was recovered and kept as a trophy, though I'm not sure who by. Perhaps the Emperor. A tissue sample from that hand was used later in the extended universe to clone Luke.

Sounds more like things are escalating to me. Yesterday (the 20th) a 16-year-old girl named Neda was shot and killed while watching a rally with her father. A few nearby people happened to have camera phones. They didn't catch the actual shooting, just the aftermath and her death. Warning...

Not a big step, but a step in the right direction nonetheless. At the rate NASA (and foreign equivalents) are moving, I wouldn't be surprised to see private sector technology overtake them.

With the private sector taking a much close interesting in space travel, I could see this happening. Things like the SpaceShipOne and Google's lunar X Prize are showing a lot of progress.
