I just realized back then how fanatical the Half Life 2 audience was....and that amongst the top one hundred hackers in the world, at least one of them had to have both been following the development of the game and gotten angry enough just might do something....like what has happened.

I'm rather fond of mine. Piece of art from a game that I replicated into a logo...and then found out the game was canceled before it was even announced.
Why not just go completely open source? Tag a closed-source security system on, and get feedback from the community on all aspects from AI, to models, to textures, etc.

Well that was just about 30 minutes of work...had trouble getting the right texture/feel to match.

I think the exact terminology for the benchmark that we'll be receiving at some point in time is a 'rolling demo'. A demo where you can't use the controls :)
Try putting your heart and soul into a game for FIVE years straight, after putting THREE already. Working odd hours, eating finger food...I suppose it's a poor excuse but I think we shouldn't judge him too harshly.
