I have always said the secret to happiness is low expectations. so yes....it's going to be really bad... ps. comparing doom3's "atmospheric" engine to hl2...that's like saying "The Shining" was scarier than "Braveheart".

it's very possible that a team of people are working on a patch already that was never intended to make the initial release. with the delay (however long it may actually be) that patch may end up being included with the shipped game.

a screenshot of what? HL2 running HL1? try waiting for the game to come out first. HL2 can play HL1 maps that have been recompiled with the new Hammer. But they won't be special or physics enabled without new textures and new object properties.
