    Today is the day

What are some game developers that also publish their games? Doesn't Blizzard release their own material? Also, to be able to launch a distribution operation on your own (wisely, not actually constructing oodles of jobs and positions and erecting warehouses) for games, does anyone know a...

    Today is the day

While on topic for Steam-related things, does anyone know if the folder/executable system for Half-Life 2 will be identical for retail buyers as well as Steam users? I know you need Steam to run anything HL2-related, but will retail purchasers need to use a cache system similar to what...

    Today is the day

This is a serious question: what would happen if tomorrow Valve decided to just release Half-Life 2 over Steam, leaving retail buyers in the dust (at least until VUG ships it)? This is a hypothetical, so I certainly would not expect it to actually happen. Legality-wise what could potentially...

Can I back up HL2 game data once it's unlocked?

Can I back up HL2 game data once it's unlocked?

If I wanted to copy the files to disc and then re-copy it back into the game folder would it work just the same?

Can I back up HL2 game data once it's unlocked?

As it is right now I could obviously burn all the GCF files to disc in order to create a backup. I hope there isn't some security lock on the folder where Steam-acquired files pertaining to Half-Life 2 reside. What I mean, is when we're finally allowed to unlock and play the game, will we be...

Valve's Cliffe has officially confirmed US PC Gamer score of 98%!!!

Even if Gamespot is lowering their scores just to distinguish themselves from other critics, I do believe that a lot of their actual reviews coincide with the scores given to the titles. Nothing is more frustrating than reading a game review that spends about 3/4 of the time nitpicking and then...

Valve's Cliffe has officially confirmed US PC Gamer score of 98%!!!

Same way I felt about Doom 3. I was like "wtf is with all these idiots?" Everyone was acting like it was the second coming for PC games. It was alright, and enjoyable, but just alright, imo. So yeah, you're right in that Gamespot reviews tend to leave out the additional five percentage points...

Valve's Cliffe has officially confirmed US PC Gamer score of 98%!!!

It does seem Gamespot goes out of their way to lower the scores compared to the other game reviews.

Valve's Cliffe has officially confirmed US PC Gamer score of 98%!!!

Actually, it was. The other one speculated the score. What Cliffe validated within deserved a new thread confirming it. Honestly, how many threads with 'supposed' PC Gamer scores have been posted on here recently and have turned out to be a bust? Now we have confirmation! People need to see this!

Post #12 in the thread linked above.

Valve's Cliffe has officially confirmed US PC Gamer score of 98%!!!

A mod should sticky this or at least make a news post. I believe the only other game to have such a high score in US PC Gamer is Alpha Centauri. Congrats to Valve and all their hard work!

Anyone else looking forward to RE4?

that little tech demo in cs:s doesn't seem like much?

The textures and model complexity in CS: Source is absolutely NO indication of Source's limits. So in response to your query, yes, that is only a very little bit of what it can do.

    Half-Life 2 Online

I'd think, depending on how intuitive the game's editing tools are once it's released, we could probably be seeing a decent user-made HL2 DM/MP (original weapons, vehicles, textures) within a couple months. I'm really excited to see a Domination/CTF-style mode using the seabed map from the Coast...

    PC Gamer US review, maybe.

It's usually not a good sign when the one who breaks the news fails to return for discussion during the entire 5-page thread. As this poster (in the same discussion) puts it: This is unless, of course, the guy is scrambling to reduce image sizes and what not from scans he's hurriedly trying...

    Gold version of game?

It would be nice if they included another option to get the discs (more a collector's type deal than anything else). Seeing as how you already have the game installed on your computer it doesn't make much sense to have another form of installation hanging around unless you're a completist and...

    Gold version of game?

I would assume that you shouldn't expect any more from the following (taken from HL2.net's main news page):

    PC Gamer US review, maybe.

    Cool. *Crosses fingers on score*

    PC Gamer US review, maybe.

Until that dude posts a scan of at least the scorebox I could care less. But if it is indeed 98% then w00t!!!!
