What are some game developers that also publish their games? Doesn't Blizzard release their own material? Also, to be able to launch a distribution operation on your own (wisely, not actually constructing oodles of jobs and positions and erecting warehouses) for games, does anyone know a...
While on topic for Steam-related things, does anyone know if the folder/executable system for Half-Life 2 will be identical for retail buyers as well as Steam users? I know you need Steam to run anything HL2-related, but will retail purchasers need to use a cache system similar to what...
This is a serious question: what would happen if tomorrow Valve decided to just release Half-Life 2 over Steam, leaving retail buyers in the dust (at least until VUG ships it)? This is a hypothetical, so I certainly would not expect it to actually happen. Legality-wise what could potentially...
As it is right now I could obviously burn all the GCF files to disc in order to create a backup. I hope there isn't some security lock on the folder where Steam-acquired files pertaining to Half-Life 2 reside. What I mean, is when we're finally allowed to unlock and play the game, will we be...
Even if Gamespot is lowering their scores just to distinguish themselves from other critics, I do believe that a lot of their actual reviews coincide with the scores given to the titles. Nothing is more frustrating than reading a game review that spends about 3/4 of the time nitpicking and then...
Same way I felt about Doom 3. I was like "wtf is with all these idiots?" Everyone was acting like it was the second coming for PC games. It was alright, and enjoyable, but just alright, imo. So yeah, you're right in that Gamespot reviews tend to leave out the additional five percentage points...
Actually, it was. The other one speculated the score. What Cliffe validated within deserved a new thread confirming it. Honestly, how many threads with 'supposed' PC Gamer scores have been posted on here recently and have turned out to be a bust? Now we have confirmation! People need to see this!
A mod should sticky this or at least make a news post. I believe the only other game to have such a high score in US PC Gamer is Alpha Centauri. Congrats to Valve and all their hard work!
The textures and model complexity in CS: Source is absolutely NO indication of Source's limits. So in response to your query, yes, that is only a very little bit of what it can do.
I'd think, depending on how intuitive the game's editing tools are once it's released, we could probably be seeing a decent user-made HL2 DM/MP (original weapons, vehicles, textures) within a couple months. I'm really excited to see a Domination/CTF-style mode using the seabed map from the Coast...
It's usually not a good sign when the one who breaks the news fails to return for discussion during the entire 5-page thread. As this poster (in the same discussion) puts it:
This is unless, of course, the guy is scrambling to reduce image sizes and what not from scans he's hurriedly trying...
It would be nice if they included another option to get the discs (more a collector's type deal than anything else). Seeing as how you already have the game installed on your computer it doesn't make much sense to have another form of installation hanging around unless you're a completist and...
