If i order the gold version of half-life 2 off steam, will i receive the game on disk (like the normal version you would buy in the shops) in this special box, with all the special items?

Thanks for any info =)

We don't know. It's unlikely though. Hope for the best is all we can do atm.

I would assume that you shouldn't expect any more from the following (taken from HL2.net's main news page):

sorry, i have just seen a thread on the exact same topic a few posts down. Could the mods delete this please, thanks.

No, you probably have to download it, but I want a CD because I only have a 56k connection.

well it does say half-life 2*, but it dosnt specify weather or not it comes on a disk or not for this package.

It would be nice if they included another option to get the discs (more a collector's type deal than anything else). Seeing as how you already have the game installed on your computer it doesn't make much sense to have another form of installation hanging around unless you're a completist and simply have to get it. Besides, I would assume their security system (CD-Keys/Steam authentication) would be contradictive to one another if you have two different forms of the same game (Steam copy vs CDs). Anywho...I hope they do come up with something so we can have it both ways....(in Ted Turner Family Guy-style voice): "like a bisexual."

Just the box for souvenir purposes.

Hello Cliffe,
chances are that by the time you get to read this the
answer will be spread throughout the whole community, but still, I was
hoping to infringe on your time for a little clarification regarding the
newly announced Steam purchasing options;

When the "Gold" package details alluded to a Collector's Box, what does
it contain? Is it literally just the box for souvenir purposes, or does
it contain hard copies (making this option viable even for a dial-up
stranded user like myself)?

Will purchasers of the retail CE have access to Day of Defeat: Source at
a later date? I'd presume that it's not included on CD because more
content is required for finalisation (and only Steam could distribute
all that reasonably).

Finally, can you give us any details on international shipping costs, or
are these yet to be confirmed?

Thanks a bunch,
-Ed

info from valve thread

Valve can't physically distribute the game. That's what the publisher does and that's why VUG are so pissed about being cut out where Steam is concerned. Since forever buying a game hasn't been about buying a storage medium with data on it, it's been about buying a licence to use that data.

Sorry... I'm just feeling a little down due to the realisation that yay, Half Life 2 can be pre-purchased and CS:S can be played now... but now I actually can't afford it. I need to find a fekin' job really... oh well... back to the math. I just know that if I re-do my expenses enough it'll come up with $100 in my favour. ;)

:| Can I purchase CS:S by itself? I just want to play CS:S right now, becuase it looks uber cool!

ailevation: No not right now. You buy HL2 & get CS:S for free practically. But you ARE going to buy HL2 anyway are you not?
