Purrrreeee 10 paint minute art! :naughty:
*Announcer voice* MR. GOOOOORRRDDDDOONNN FREEMAN battles the evil zombified head crabified hosts and head crabs near a neighborhood being overrun by that giant black city eater. Will Freeman survive? Will the giant black city...
PS3.0 and PS2.0 are VERY much alike as far as any end-user features go. Visual quality (with the exception of displacement mapping) is pretty much 100% the same as PS2.0.
You'll Pixel Shader 3.0 advantages if you're a developer, or if you're hardware.
NEVER EVER trust video from a real world camera for determining a game's graphics. Because the real world has no options to turn of HDR or bump maps. ;)
So essentially what you get from a shaky cam is the game and its graphics, + a mess of "post-processing" added by the camera.
Grr won't let me edit the last post.
Well anyways, here's what a couple of HL2 screens, with simulated bloom and high dynamic range...
The second image shows what you possibly could see if you were looking down on the dark ground, and then quickly whurled your head up towards the street...
That's not bloom. That's [what appears to be] a 2D sprite. :P
On a side note, you can have bloom without HDR...it just won't look great. (Cough...Deus Ex 2. Cough.)
Lots of confusion about HDR. For starters, you do NOT get a glow from HDRI. HDR allows post processing filters such as bloom or corona (usually bloom in games) which provide the glow.
HDR stands for High Dynamic Range.
WTF is dynamic range? The dynamic range in a frame of CGI is the...
Someone spoke of cramped spaces earlier.
I seriously am thinking big wide open spaces have been done to death. Hopefully HL2 will find a good mix of both.
From what I've seen of all these next-gen games.... FarCry wins.
Far Cry #1
Far Cry #2 (Graphics Still #1)
Far Cry #3 (Graphics STILL #1
Far Cry #4 (and it beat all those overhyped games in release dates too!
Every company owes us something the moment they decide to go into business. We're consumers, and we put the food they live off on their plates. We pay the rent for their offices, so yeah, they do owe us something. They owe it because otherwise they wouldn't exist, their survival depends on...
DNF is supposedly going to make a 2005 release. Announce in 1997 I believe, it's been in development for 8 damn years.
Neither HL2 or D3 can match that delayness. ;) Or I hope not...
It's like reading those Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network forums...y'know?
Which is better that episode of Barney we saw last week or the brand new Rugrats coming up next year? :naughty:
Doom III and its fan base = hardcore
HL2 and its fan base = mainsteam
Therefore the D3 fanbase will have more people with the attitude "Both games will have good and bad parts, and I'll buy them both"
While the mainstream (the majority) section of the HL fanbase, many of whom have names...
Watch HL2 be another lousy sequel, cursed because it is a sequel...
Come on people, name a single sequel game better than the original? With the exception of Age of Kings...and a couple of other games ;)
But hopefully HL2 will be one of those exceptions come April.
