Thought it was outstanding. Finally a game that was "different" than everything else out there. I was expecting it to be a simple puzzle game, but when GLaDOS started to get a bit dark and creepy it really turned the game into much more than what I expected.
My only two complaints (which...
Very cool! I bet if they could make a small fortune selling those (if valve let them, obviously).
I wonder if anyone at Valve had any clue the biggest star of Portal would end up being an inanimate object...hmmm
A lot of good lines to choose from, but the one which made me laugh the hardest (because I was thinking a similar thing JUST before he said it) was:
Barney - Good job Gordon, throwing that switch and all, I can see your M.I.T.
education really pays off.
I also agree...it's just not good, and it does seem to be made by someone who has no concept of what sells games. That fan art version, to me, is considerably better.
As a side note, in the same article, 4. American Girl: Julie Finds A Way Is simply awkward and bizarre. An evil mind could come...
I had the same problem and ended up with the same solution :D. I kept dying and kept trying new things until this strategy finally worked.
I took the turrets with me though and set them up on the balcony.
I usually play through on normal and then play through again weeks/months later on hard.
Though, many games I'll just play from the start on hard if I already know the general concept, like Episode 1 and 2 I knew what to expect and started with hard.
Huge success to me.
As others have said: I, too, went in with so-so to no expectations, but in the end it was my favorite game in the "Orange Box."
Only changes I would make is make it longer (which is pretty much everyone's opinion) and I would have limited the "learning/training" levels at...
That was the part which made me literally say wtf out loud. If he dislikes TF2 that's fine, everyone is entitled, but comparing it to Quake just shows ignorance.
Ahh well...at least there was Olivia Munn to look at after that segment. :)
Episode 2 for me also, and also not even close.
To me, the puzzles were much more entertaining, the battles felt..umm "right" for lack of a better word, the characters were had more to say and when they said it you wanted to make sure you listened.
I started from HL1 a month or so back. I Skipped BS and OP, then went on to HL2 and Episode:1.
One thing amazed me: HL1, even after all these years, is still very fun and very playable. Goes to show (to me anyway) that game play can always overcome graphics.
As with many: I think I'll wait a bit until I hear from others how it's running.
But, even if I read/hear it's running perfectly, I'm fairly happy with XP and haven't had any horrible issues. More so, there aren't any new features that make me stand up and want to rush to the store to drop a...
Have to go with everyone else: Alyx.
I think without her, this wouldn't have been half as interesting. Without her, it becomes a standard, though cool, FPS.
Ever watch a good movie where you simply don't like the characters? You end up not caring what happens in the end. With EP1, and Alyx...
I've had great luck with HL2 and EP1; no bugs to mention (slight stutter over time but a reboot takes care of it in both HL2 and Ep1)
EPoX EP-9NPA3ULTRA mobo
Athlon64 3200+ venice
XFX Geforce 7900GT Extreme
1gig Corsair
(nothing Oc'ed)
I'm not a valve fan boy at all, but I've had minor issues and have a middle of the road system (these days anyway).
Some slowdowns, but again...middle of the road system so it's unfair to blame steam for me.
Never even had the "stutter bug" in HL2 from day one...so I'm probably one of the...
