What difficulty level do you play on?

Easy?
Enemies are easy to defeat, and the computer helps you aim. (Such a joke that I havent even tried it)

Normal?
Challenging enemies; you weapons do normal damage. (Who likes normal?)

Hard?
Enemies are very tough; your weapons are less effective. (The real deal, the challenge, full experience)

Personally i play on hard from the beginning all the way to the end, not only on half life but on everygame I play. This is because i want to play for as long as I can to basically make the 50$ i paid worth it, because i'd be really mad if i paid 50 bucks to beat a game in 1 and 1/2 days, u noe? plus the hard mode is the full experience

Normal and Hard

After a while, I leave everything on hard as my default skill.

I...um... play easy at first to familiarize myself with a new game, then medium...

I start on normal, them do hard on future play-throughs. I'm doin hl2 on hard right now.

Do your weapons really deal less damage on hard? I know you take less hits but killing the enemies themselves doesn't appear to be more difficult.

I only ever play FPS games on the hardest setting right off the bat. Anything else rarely seems challenging to me.

Yeah, your weapons do less damage, which leads to more 'resource management' on ammo, I try to get more headshots on hard.

tyring to get headshots sucks cuz sometimes u hit them dead in th face and it somehow doesnt read it as a headshot, so i just own them in the chest/neck area.

I play HL games on Normal the first time through, cause I'm there for the storyline, mainly.

On Achievement runs, it's Easy for me. Ain't no way I could punt that Gnome down the road with anything but Easy; the chopper was shredding me to bits.

On second/third/whatever, I play on Hard.

Normal, because it doesn't modify anything; I get to see the "normal" damage and effectiveness of things.

Any game I get I play on Hard, don't like anything else as I finish it too quickly and that's boring :p. I love a challenge :)

I usually play through on normal and then play through again weeks/months later on hard.

Though, many games I'll just play from the start on hard if I already know the general concept, like Episode 1 and 2 I knew what to expect and started with hard.

Normal. I only play through Hard on occasion and I don't consider it to be a more "full" experience.

Watching Schindler's List while squeezing lemons into my eyes would be more difficult than a normal viewing, but that doesn't make it a worthwhile investment.

Normal. I play through hard on later playthroughs, but always on normal to familiarise myself. And, as someone has already mentioned, it doesn't alter anything.

You bastard! I have to sig that now :D

You've all got me wanting to play EP1 on normal now

Nooo dont change ur mind, playing on hard is the way to go. why would you anyway, you're used to hard alrady.

When u start a new game and you start on Hard its like starting on normal or easy. You need to get used to every new game you play so if u start on hard that'll be ur standard, you'll learn everything the hard way as if it was normal or easy, you'll just feel like you have to get used to how hard it is, ull feel like thats just how the game is. Do I make myself clear? im sure someone can explain this^^^^^^^ in a better way.

You win the thread

I like Easy/Normal, the guns make kind of realistic damage to NPC's. But about you...their guns don't really make much damage.

That's what I like about Hard mode. The fact that if someone hits you, it feels like you're not just in a game. You're actually in real life. The Hazard Suit isn't that great, and if you got shot in the side by a shotgun, I appreciate the fact that it would hurt... alot

It can take a direct hit from an RPG and let you live on HL1. It's supposed to be a walking mini-tank.

TBH I think it would make some sense that, at full power you take no HP damage, but as it drops below 90% you take progressively more damage in relation to suit drain.

I play it on normal, because the amount of (smg) bullets that takes to kill a combine soldier on hard is ridiculous. I prefer realism in games(in gameplay, not in storyline).

Um... the fact that they're wearing armour, and your smg bullets are probably not hitting him both show that he's not really going to get hurt that much. On normal, the guys are practically dolls. Just a quick shot and they're dead. For God's Sake, they're practically Cyborgs! Your smgs are the most inaccurate pieces of crap you have in your inventory. Just pistol them in the head a few times.

And on Normal, the amount of damage you don't take is hardly real.

I only ever played Episode One on hard.

Lowlife wasn't as tough as I thought; but that antlion guard must've got me 20 times at least.

I learned my lesson.

Shoot 'em in the face.

SMG = Innacuracy + Low Damage

I use this useless gun for the zombies that dont deserve that much worry.

Now for the white combines at the end of Half life 2 and the Ep's I love the Pulse Rifle it owns. With a burst of 10 bullets u can kill a combine, 15 if u spray, 2 combines with one clip. With the SMG u need all 45 bullets to get one spray kill, 3 clips if the combine is far away.

It's not that hard. Plus have you seen the armor those guys are wearing? Right now we have armor that will stop fully automatic 7.62 rnds so it's not that unrealistic.

Except for the fact that 7.62 is a wide round and is ill suited for use against body armour, where as 4.7mm rounds are more effective against body armour, because that's what they're designed for use against.

Ok but I was just giving an example. This is easily justified by saying that the combine engineered an armor to protect them against high penetration rounds.

Tbh having no armour is better from what I've heard.
