Thors will still be used as mobile missile turrets. The problem is how slow and easy they are to kill, not necessarily the damage they did.
You never really see a Thor in action, because they're usually dead by first 5 seconds of any battle.

How is your drive failing? If it's just getting bad sectors, I wouldn't worry about it too much. That can be caused by normal wear an tear on the drive. However, if these bad sectors are increasing at an alarming rate, then you have something to worry about.

Partitions are good if you separate your OS from the rest of your data.
Make sure your new HD is not a Seagate, or Maxtor. I only trust Western Digital these days, as the failure rate of those other two brands is abysmal.
