Doug reaches forward over the keyboard and exits the game. “That’s enough for that map, we don’t want to reveal too much of the story.” When the next chapter has loaded, Gordon is standing next to a rusty dune buggy, and holds a big, fully automatic machine gun...
Okay, I tried my best, but it is late (at least for me), so a few errors probably slipped past. There are some grammatical "errors" that I knowingly let by as I was unsure of what was trying to be said and did not wish to alter what the orginal author intended to say.
I must also thank...
Lol. If that was meant to show me they are not similar... well, I already knew that. The only characteristics that led me to the comparison are their legs (both very angular and bug-like) and their tendency to be in packs or large groups. Thats all. It would be pretty interesting to see the two...
Well, if you read what I wrote, you would see I never actually said they modelled them after real antlions. I said it was interesting they were both very similar. You must admit they do share quite a few characteristics, regardless. However, I wouldn't put it past them to do have used a...
Who said Gordon destroyed all the aliens in HL? He only was in specific areas of Xen. Even when the U.S. Army went into Xen, there is no proof (that I know of at least) that they were all killed. G-Man even stated (paraphrasing) "we have control of Xen... for now at least."
Well, thats a...
Hehe... I know exactly what you mean. I have to buy expensive keyboards or the cheap-o ones get broken relatively quickly.
Well, I'm not too sure that the Guardian Antlion's (is that what they are called? ...the big ones we saw at the end of the bugbait video and in the HDR video) are the...
I think he said the ground was "hallow," as in sacred, or holy. Often used when in or near graveyards, where the dead lay. I'll double-check the movie though.
EDIT: He definitely says to "tread lightly, for this is hallowed ground..."
I didn't say he was English, did I? I know the english language can be very difficult for people who did not grow up speaking it. He speaks (writes) quite a bit better than many people, but he still does need a little practice, or formal training if he hasn't gotten that yet. Mostly, though, he...
Well, a big underground colony is very possible... but I'm guessing no, at least not something on a huge scale. Antlion's do appear to come out of holes in the ground (or buildings... which are even harder), but that's not saying much--alot of animals do that (and they don't have huge lair's)...
Wow...
This is the only semi-intelligent statement in the entire article.
The only reason I enjoyed reading that is that I enjoy reading anything related to Half-life 2.
Could the writers of that article squeezed in any more innuendo's or explicit sexual references? ...seriously, is...
Hmm... I didn't even notice "character mapping."
What I meant by mentioning the HDR (assuming your talking to me), is that the overall graphical quality was far higher than in the e3 2004 videos; I was careful to qualify that comparison by saying the quality in the shaky-cam videos probably...
I cannot agrue with that one bit. I was merely guessing as to the reason. We know its possible it can do it, but it's very possible that many computers will not be able to have that running on everything in large heated sequences. Honestly, the graphics are not nearly as important as the...
Not sure if the antlion screenshots are older and were just reused for the presentation (doesn't appear to be as its a whole series...), but it is definitely where I first saw them.
The presentation is here: http://www.ati.com/developer/gdc/D3DTutorial10_Half-Life2_Shading.pdf

Okay... definitely time for a ban here. Clearly an account created solely to cause trouble.
EDIT: Not sure if that edit was a mod or him... but he should probably still be banned... or spanked... or something.
Well, they are probably in beta by now, or not far off. It is important to note, however, that developers are different in their description of what beta and alpha phases signify. For Valve, it apparently means a polishing/last-minute-minor-bugfixing stage.
Heartily agree with you here...
I don't know if this is intentional... (doesn't seem like it should be), but when you mouse over on this topic in the general forum view (the listing of all the current threads) you can read the text that is normally hidden in a spoiler tag. So, if someone moused over, and didn't know there was...
Its on Halflife2.net's packages page. It's silvery looking...

EDIT: As far as I know, this has not be finalized or completely confirmed that it will look exactly like that, but its a good bet it won't change.
If I remember correctly, there are two versions of the combine. One around the citizens (think the train sequence) are police, but the ones elsewhere (fighting sequences) are the soldiers. The only differences appear to be their weaponry and the color of their masks--white indicates police/city...
