from http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/download.php:
"Patched ati2mtag.sys 316 KB (9500 -> 9700 and 9800SE -> 9800 PRO) "
Riva Tuner also is able to patch it.
And there is a possibility that a bios flash will also fix it.
And supposively it is possible. The 9800se has the 4 pipelines...
I'm thinking of buying this video card as its only $185, and trying the softmod to change it to a 9800/9800pro. Has any one had success with this? Failure? What brand card?

Thats what i want to know, i rarely played without them. With me and two other friends playing on a lan at school, it was very nice to be able to populate the map with bots. Hope they stick them back in at some point.

The other thing to point out, and i believe this is the reason for the delay in releasing steam, is that the majority of the content servers were down.
The day of steam's release, there was only 600 Mbp/s bandwidth. A few weeks before that, there was at least 2000 Mbp/s allocated. So that is...
I know for a fact that when opening the games window, it checks for updates on available games, and possibly, in the non-beta, checks for access to those games as well.
The Friends network, and server window obviously also require communication with the servers as well.

248 is not a load. there were more than that on the steam forum around 11:00 yesterday, not to mention the hundreds of people at the homepage and the getsteam page.
And I believe it was typed funny, there is no reason for them to force that check.

And to further illustrate my point, this version has the static-lod (in the same position as the previous video) only using 4 LOD meshes instead of 8. if anything, the Static looks better, because it retains its detail for a longer period then the MRM version.
We shouldn't have any LOD...
Ok, lets play a little game. Watch this video of two identical models side by side as they move into the distance. One features Static-LOD. The other features Intel's Dynamic LOD. They both start out at full detail, and are at 10% detail by the time they reach the end.
The Static LOD uses 8...
Technically the number of models can be anywhere between 1-??? The idea with having more than just a high and low, is that the transition is smoother.
Some things i've found....
1.) With High-poly models (>10000) MRM is very slow.
2.) Around 5000, its decent at scaleing
3.) less than...
Last post before i go to work. It turns out that Max's Multi-res Modifier is Intel's MRM...
MRM demonstration
I made this 5 mins ago. The original model was around 10k, and it scales down to 1k faces over 100 frames. no, it doesn't play this animation smoothly in max (p4 1.6 geforce2 256...
Its been a while since the tf2 days that i've read anything on it, but i'll give it another read.
I think i'm thinking of this too much from a 3d animation standpoint. The meshes it produces are ugly, ie. no preservation of edgeloops (very useful for proper facial animation), or detail around...
That was my point, the automatic LOD routines, including dynamic LOD routines often produce subpar results when compared to those manually created by the artists.

Another advantage of static LOD, is that it puts the artists in control. Has anyone ever used one of those poly-reducer functions in a 3d app, like 3ds max's "Multi-res." While it is able to reduce the polygon counts, the results are very often crap. One reason for this, is that the low-poly...
I can see valve now.... "Oh shit, they want they game to be scary?? Looks like we are going to have to start from the top"
What this poll amounts to is "will you be disappointed or happy with the scaryness of Half-life 2." And the fact of the matter is, no one knows yet. But given the first...
I do recall reading that in the email from valve thread.
What i want to know is why everyone keeps saying the e3 videos are on a build of the game that is a year old. Proof of concept was a year ago. E3 was in May. Why would they backstep 9 months for the demonstration.
