Actually, I'd say the teleporter malfunction is Half-Life 2's "tram ride". It may not have come at the very beginning of the game, but it was just as effective.
Usually, EULAs for the original game prevent them from selling mods.
But suppose the EULA didn't prohibit it. Personally, I would see nothing wrong with charging for a mod. If someone feels there is a market for their product and that consumers would be willing to pay the asking price then...

So looking at my system right now, it would cost me upwards of $500 to upgrade to a top-of-line video card and 1GB of RAM just to make Lost Coast playable. Them's some damn steep system requirements!
Um, no, they mean exactly what they said: They would prefer people concentrate on releasing original content rather remaking existing content. If anything, Valve is being generous not shutting this mod down immediately as they have every right to.
You sure about that? The download page says:
"Celtech Studios is working hard on the Beta version of Eclipse. The game is in testing and a release date will be made public soon."

Wow, those mods look excellent! Why haven't we heard about them before? They certainly show that the Source engine is capable of generating beautiful scenery.
