What about anti-aliasing settings? I found that these caused problems for me when set incorrectly, producing pink surfaces. I have a Radeon 9700 pro though, so it might not apply. Try changing them in ati control panel to application preference...or if they are set to this, change them...

If the 4.9 Catalyst drivers work fine, I'd go back to them. I'm sure that if this is a common problem, Ati will fix it soon enough. If it's a specific problem with your card though, perhaps someone else can suggest something better......
