I want a hydra that bursts from the ice to stop player from walking outside map. I highly doubt that headcrabs, antlions and other things like that would survive the cold. Maybe ichthyosaurs... I would like to see CrabSynths and MortarSynths in action.

One of the rebels in White Forest says: "hey, freeman, i want to say thanks beacuse i was in the train you helped escape". And the only train that Gordon helped to escape was the one with Barney. Oh, and Barney`s voice can be heard after the final battle.

The fact that we dont encounter any Antlion King doesnt means they dont exist. Besides, Xen is only a Borderworld. Bullsquids, antlions, vortigaunts and other friendly creatures have their origin outside Xen.
