1 fps server

When I create a server in hl2 deathmatch the map loads fine. When I quit the server the menu screen fades in and loads at what seems like 1 fps, If i create another server its unplayable its just so slow. I have to quit out and restart HL2 to get round it. Does anyone know what the problem is It doesn't happen if I join an online game and its the same for every map?

Just to piss the previous guys off, yes I know what you are talking about. Unfortunately I don't know how to overcome the problem. As always the best people to ask would be the Steam forums

okay thanks all. Its a bit better after a complete reinstall, still a bit touch and go mainly when a map loads first 10 seconds.

Have you tried a full defragmentation of your harddisks, I found when I installed Half Life 2, that a good degrag helps the performance.

Yeah i did a defrag and added another gig of ram, seems okay ...ish now
