I think we actually go by the post reference. The stat on the forum index misses out all the posts in the staff forum, the deleted posts, the reported posts forum etc. so it accurately indicates how many posts have passed through.

I'm hoping there will be something to celebrate it.

What about when the website was down for a month or so last spring? I though a lot of posts were lost then? I might be remembering wrong though.

Even if we had lost posts, the post and thread reference numbers wouldn't have changed.
Around 820,000 posts have come through this forum, few have been perm deleted and I think there's some sort of archive with old forums we used to have (like Rumors and Speculation) etc.

Out of those 820,000 a high majority of them still exist in the database

We didn't lose anything during the down time earlier this year.

We did lose around 7-10 days worth of threads because the database backup we had was one which Munro did around a week before we left the previous host.
