12 Dead in Cumbria shootings

Holy ****, thats the last thing you'd expect in such a lovely area of the country

This is really awful...and like you say such a strange thing for that part of the country.

Places I'm reading right now is saying 5 dead and 25 injured (deaths likely to increase).

edit: seems like old RSS feeds...seeing 11 and 12 on others.

12 dead at the moment.

[MakeStoryRelevantToMe]We got locked in at work as a precaution (we were a fair few miles away though).[/MakeStoryRelevantToMe]

Wild stuff. I've also heard the 12 dead figure from somebody authoritative-sounding on the news.

It's sounding like he used a shotgun, started off by killing his friend, then drove from place to place shooting people on sight, before eventually shooting himself in some woods.

Listen to the audio clip of a guy who found a woman after she'd just be shot on that BBC news article, horrible - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/10214661.stm

Sounds more like a rifle, especially since it had a scope. I'm waiting to find out what made this guy flip and turn into a maniac.

I guess he might even have had multiple guns. I based the shotgun thing on the news that a woman had been admitted to hospital with 'shotgun wounds'.

Holy sh*t. I can't believe it. My family and I holiday in the Lake District several times a year and have done for the past two decades (my mum and dad went there even before i was born). Fortunately our caravan is on the east side near Penrith so even if we'd been up there we wouldn't really have been affected. Still, I have never heard of anything like that happening there. I know there was a murder once (that was actually near our end. The area was crawling with police for ages) and that was terrifying and horrifying enough but this...this is just shocking.

only in ame-wait....

anyway lets see if a terrorist group take responsability of this, wouldnt be surprised

my family have been to cumbria a few times in the last couple of years - lovely place, real quiet and quaint - so this is pretty shocking. just glad we aren't there now.

There used to be a time when a guy like that just locked his bathroom door and shot himself in the head. What happened to us?

12 dead, 25 injured (3 in critical condition, 5 seriously wounded) 2nd worst massacre in UK

According to interviews he was an average quiet guy; according to a witness he used a sniper rifle

Another man, believed to be a local taxi driver, suffered a serious gunshot wound to his hand.

Wut?

Anyway, I'm waiting for the whole "Gun Law" debate to show up.
*lights up cigarette*

This all happened literally 45 mins away from me while I was at work. The bloke that did it was a taxi driver, started with his mum and just went on a rampage. They still don't know why. Sick bastard.

red dead redemption and/or rockstar to blame in 5 4 3 2

He killed his mom too? Wow.

Not even going to be remotely linked to anything like that.

i hope that is the case. please don't take my post - as a gamer on a gaming forum - as if i was seriously thinking that it has to be and would be the cause and reason, but unless you've been living on the moon, the GTA games have had quite a bit of scrutiny regarding violence i.e. jack thompson.

That was the talk circulating the area this afternoon. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet though I don't think.

No, no. I didn't put that well. I know every gamer expects this kind of knee jerk reaction to these kind of shootings, and these accusations are always nonsense. I was just trying to say that games will not even factor into this from what I have heard. The guy apparently had an argument with someone which led to this. I don't know of any way this could actually be linked to gaming.

oh okay yeah, i get you.

either way, even with all the facts like that laid out, there will still be idiots out there who would love to pin this on video games as they so often do. it wouldn't surprise me if one came of this, as much as i hope that people have stopped bothering with such ridiculous claims.

Coronation Street was cancelled because of this because it featured a similar storyline, so it would've been disrespectful to broadcast it.

If the entire cast get killed and the show finishes for good, I would watch.

The theme tune makes me want to go on a murderous rampage, starting with that bastard cat :flame:
