im thinking of upgrading my graphx card, is this card going to be good enough to play hl2 in all its glory, and also be a good investment for the future?

how much are you looking to spend on graphics? That is the first question you have to answer.

No, and no :(

Go for at least a 9600pro/XT, but as blahblahblah said give us your budget and we can help you more :)

I currently have a GeforceFX 5200, as a person with expierience, i urge you not to get it!

It had promising features but executed poorly on everyone of them. There is no future value for it, hell, it doesnt even run games from 2 years ago well!
Thank god im upgrading soon.

Geforce 2,3,4 ATI 8500,9200,9600,9800 all obliterate the gFX 5200.

6800 for a high end system... 9800 for the avrage pointless gamer FX 5200 for your products like photoshop... the Gforce 2 is ancient.... last time i checked you could get one for 50$ i used to have one it served me well but its uhh OUT OF DATE!!! so i got a fx5200 it served me well... and now its out of date again shit this is makeing me mad... get the 9800 pro 128 if you on a kinky budet or the 6800... it looks like a winner... im getting a 6800... but to avoid flameing from all the ati fan boys witch make up 78.55% of all the internet forums... just wait for the bench marks...

ignore him.

He is talking about $300 to $500 video cards. You need to tell us your price range for us to recommend the best card for your budget.

ok thanks for the feedback everyone, im sorry, i forgot to mention my budget d'oh!

at the moment, i think i could only afford about $100 maximum, my system specs are as follows:

amd athlon 2600
512mb ram
128mb gforce 4 mx440
120gb hard drive

thankyou!

edit: as you can see, i dont think that my mx440 graphx card is going to be able to run hl2 as well as i would like lol

also, i have a brother in the UK, are prices going to be any lower over there? would it be better to buy one there and ship it over?

again, thanks for the info!

ok, i live in the UK and i can give you probably an 80-90% guarentee it wont be cheaper to buy it over here and then ship it over.

and about the card, try this card link

p.s. jsut to give you the idea of prices over here, that card costs about £71 over here, thats about $130USD, and then you would still have to ship it over.

The 5200 is the equivalent of the MX440....I'd hold your horses until new cards come and out and prices drop..maybe you could pick up a 5900ultra or 9800pro for $100 or around there...maybe $130 - $150...it would be worth saving up the extra for, both them cards will handle HL2 on pretty high settings and run nice. :)

XenoSpirit please stop being annoying, flaming people who are actually offering sensible advice.

You should be able to get a 9600 Pro for CLOSE to $100 online, but in any case I would wait and save up.

Well, if you are on a limited budget, scrape together some extra cash and buy a ATI Radeon 9600 (not SE, not Pro, just the vanilla version). For a $100 (US) it is a very good deal and will give you pretty good performance for games out today and games coming out in this future.

Listen to this great advice. ;)

If you aren't buying right away and thinking of waiting, if you can add 50$ to that amount (150$) the 9800(pro) might be that low sometime in the summer.
