130 Degrees Celcius?!?!?!

So I just moved to florida... and its hot here. Back where i used to live the temperature display on my case usually said the temp in the case is ~ 85 degrees F. When I came down here and put it in my new desk it jumped to 105F.

Being the paranoid person I am, I thought that it was much too high. So I downloaded the program speed fan. Lo and behold, I have something running at 130 degrees C. Thats pretty freaking hot right? Everything else is running ok I guess (except I think my HDD). I dont understand how to use speed fan, im assuming that the flame icons means they are hot. But I dont know how to lower the temperature of that crazy 130 degree thing... because I dont know what it is. If you look at the sceenshots you can see that it just says IT8712f for the chip. I dont know what that is. What could get that hot? I have a 7800gt and a athlon 64bit 3200+, but I cant tell if those are the culprits. I really really really dont want to burn either of them out, since all my money is going into rent now... and school... but i need a computer for school so if something dies, so does my grade.

So i suppose my questions are:

1. Is 130 degrees celcius going to kill something within 2 yrs (time im in school and living in these hellish temperatures)

2. How can I find out what that temp3 physically is?

3. Why does it look like I have one fan not working?

Both AMD and Intel boards will not let your temp go above ~70-75C. They would turn off. Not sure on the Graphics card as I have seen them up around 85C before but never close to 100C. You should see artifacts if your GFX card chip (usually looks like snow) or GFX card memory (almost tearing across the screen but not like Vsync tearing) overheat.

It is possible that the sensor it is measuring is incorrect or that the program does not know how to read the sensor (incorrect setting).

Make sure you don't have any artifacts in games and your system is stable. Just keep an eye on it.
 
See if any other programs say the same thing. Also if you want to check for real I think you might need a thermometer.
 
Well just to double check the temps, I went into my bios and checked the temperatures in there.

The Current CPU Temperature is ~34C
Current System Temp is ~47C

So those look to be in decent shape, dont think my processor will crack under those temps.

I got another program to double check my HDD temp, and it agrees with speedfan, its about 52-53C. Is that acceptable? The program has a setting for a "warning" at 55C, and shutdown at 70C. Should I change any of those options to protect myself?

I am still worried about my expensive ass video card. Does Nvidia put any kind of temp gauge on the card, or offer any monitoring software?

Oh, and I think that 127C is a mis-read. It hasnt changed even a single degree since I got speedfan.

EDIT: oh, one more thing. In my bios it listed some fans. Here is what it said.

Current CPU Fan Speed: ~1900RPM
Current Case Fan Speed: ~865RPM
Current System Fan Speed: 0RPM

Does that mean I dont have a system fan? Or that I have a dead system fan? Actually... what is a system fan? Would it be one on the motherboard?
 
the hard drive should never be that hot and are you sure you didnt misread 130 F? also what graphics card do you have?
 
Really? crap, I dont know how to cool my hard drive any more than it is. As for the 130C temp, if you look in the first screenshot, it definately says C, not F. But like i said... i think that is a false temperature read by speedfan, since it hasnt changed a single degree.

I have a Nvidia 7800gt PCI Express graphics card.
 
55C is the max operating temp for a number of harddrives.
With 25-30C room temp most drives run around 40C. If your room temp is hotter then get some more airflow on the drive.
 
I dont know how. I have a fan on the side of the case, a blow hole fan, and two fans on a pci card. I think I may have room for one more fan on the backside of the case... After that, im gunna have to upgrade to water cooling :x.

My room temp is probably ~ 27C.
 
If you have a normal 7200 rpm HDD, you really shouldn't have to worry about this... make sure that your cables are nicely tucked away and not getting in the way of airflow. Also, dust is an insulator, so get some compressed air and go to town inside your case. If that still doesn't work, a decent case that promotes airflow will be cheaper and easier than water cooling.
 
It is a 7200rpm drive, cables are as neat as i can make them, which isnt very neat. I dusted the whole thing out before I moved, and my case is a X-Dreamer II, which has decent airflow usually.
 
Do you have 2 front case fans? That would really help with the harddrive and GFX card as the air would blow right on both of these. I've never been a fan of those PCI expansion fans. They don't work that well really and they might mess with the airflow direction in your case.

It's a good idea to keep the airflow simple. Not many fans from different directions or sources. Otherwise you get pockets where air will stay and not circulate well.
 
Hmm, ill have to check for the front fans. The reason I liked the pci expansion fan is that it has two fans, and they both will blow directly on the video card. If I am able to put a fan on the front, and blow in, those two will probably pick up some of that air and point it directly at the gpu.

For the time being, I just aimed a house fan at it, and it dropped everything about 5 degrees.

your talking about a different fan then what asus is talking about the one he is talking about is a pci fan that takes air right out of the case not take it off your video card and push it around in the case
