UT2k4 went gold less then two weeks ago. Hard to accurately review a game that isn't finished. ;)

well if i'm allowed i'll post a link to the review. i'll scan it in. devs send out review code before a game goes retail or even gold.

No reviewers have any balls these days, UT2004 is fun but it's not a classic like the score suggests. If only there was a website or magazine that only reserved the really high scores for really good games.

UT2004 is not ground breaking and in my opinion is quite dull, the SFX (e.g explosions) aren't anything to shout about and there is something quite cartoonish about the game. It's very competitive and alot of fun but it doesn't give you the kind of feeling DX, HL or even Tribes 2 which incidently didn't get fantastic reviews because people were too retarded to understand how to play it.

The other problem I have with UT2003/4 is the weapons... there crap. I only ever played instant gib in UT2003 because that way I wasn't reminded of what the missile launcher looked like.

UT2004 is gonna be grat. ONLY 8 DAYS LEFT!!!!
im reading this review right now

THIS IS GREAT

one disadvantage UT04 got ............................5GB size if thats true.......:(

UT2K4 seems like a very polished and fine-tuned game, but it lacks in the gameplay department, IMO. The weapons don't feel right and the objectives in Onslaught and Assault are uninteresting. The 94% or 5/5 stars scores are too high.

It seems very good, indeed. Onslaught really hyped me up, same with the magnificent vehicles. :)

But one thing that I find quite disturbing is that when I shoot with the Flak Cannon or Assault Rifle, I don't really feel the power from the weapon like I do in Unreal Tournament 1. The sounds on the weapons in UT1 are much louder also than in UT2k4, same with the explosions.
So sometimes I get blown up by an opponent because I didn’t hear that he shot at me first. :(

I second the sounds thing...

though I hear that with a gooood sound card, the sounds ROCK. I'll find out in July, when I get the Audigy ZS

UT2004 is like BF:V, a very good game but just nothing new. Deserves high ratings, but not this high.

Technically, I think its more news than BFV... Dont think it deserves so high scores either though. I guess I'll will never find out, I cant even get the demo to start.

God damn it, 3 games I really want are coming out in the space of 10 days!

I think UT2004 is one of the games when you first start playing it you think OMG WOW THIS GAME IS AMAZING (like I did when i first played the demo) then after a couple weeks of play it starts to get old, fast (as I found with the demo after a couple of weeks). I don't think it has the sticking power that Half-Life or CS has, probably because it's whole premise is unattractive (i.e. you are warrior's in a future sport? Doesn't sound particularily exciting to me) although who knows?

yeah, but the demo didnt have loads of different onslaught maps to conquer :naughty:

It wasn't the maps I found boring.

then what was it ????
they must have gotten boring, i mean, playing the exact same thing nights on end

It was the constant repetitiveness of jumping around shooting things. The vehicles seemed rubbish.

:O. i loved the vehicles !!

They were weak as hell (except for maybe the tank, which wasn't that good) you got killed in them more than you killed from people firing homing missiles at you from accross the map.

well then get better.
If the veichles were indistructible, there would be a repetition of halo where people would go on huge killing sprees in one veichle. Weak veichles stop this.
I find i can easily kill ppl in the veichles, and its very easy just to eject when the missile lock on screen comes up. its all about skill, not how strong the veichles are.

That there defeats the purpose of the vehicles, they are basically ways to allow you to travel around the map quicker, and they have Teleporters in Onslaught to do that.

Also it was almost impossible to dodge a missile attack, basically you had to abandon your vehicle every time otherwise you'd die with it, and you were often attacked by homing missiles. It just makes it so pointless.

ah, but only if you are connected to the required powernodes. PLUS, you have played one map, that is very average in order to try and get everything into the demo. there will be many maps, some involving use of raptors and arial veichles much more reliantly.
and tbh, i find it pathetically easy to dodge missiles UNLESS shot by an avril- in which case its still possibe. You have to know how to turn just at the right moment, then fire at your opresser while he is in a state of vulnerability. i 0wn in raptor duels- hell, i can take down tanks with my sublime skill.
