1UP Orange Box Impressions - Video

I find it strange that they didn't comment on the graphics. I personally find them more than enough but with all this "next-gen-super-duper-graphics" thing going on I wouldn't be surprised if someone mentioned that the Source engine is looking dated.

I agree with you. The graphics of Episode 2 is *awesome* and totally adequate. If one goes always looking for the best of best, he will lose focus on gameplay.
IMHO, programming a monster graphical engine like CryENGINE2 is not so difficult: all you need is a monster machine to run the thing. Gameplay and optimization to target mid-range machines, that is another matter! ;-)

A bit offtopic maybe, but what type of screen is that on his desk at 6:34, 7:08 etc.? Like brand and type et such?

Xav.

Maybe Valve are just being ultra creative with the level designs, but I have to say the maps look a lot bigger than before. Anyhows I'm quite psyched now, it's just a pity that we PC gamers don't get the HDR versions of the original games initially as well. I bet those dirty console whores at EDGE only score the overall package a 9 though (after they gave Halo 3 a 10...kants..)

I could see that happening too. Damned shame.

HDR maps would be a huge download, but I'd still wait for it!

It's just HDR guys. I thought we had gotten over the wow-factor a while ago.

If anything, it will most likely detract from your gaming experience ala low fps and jittery play.

Cool. The strider who is walking on the bridge looks so great. on 3:30

They also said they updated the character models as well for Alyx etc, texture wise so it would be nice to have the whole thing. True that the HDRs would be a significant download though, and a further system drain.

BTW semi related it's worth checking out the Games For Windows podcast at the 1up site

http://www.1up.com/do/minisite?cId=3148397

as they talk about their collective Team Fortress 2 addiction, but there is also a frankly hilarious section about an ass crazy Halo fanboy about 35 minutes in, well worth listening to.
