Yep, me. IM actuallyasking a hardware question...

Anyway, why cant i OC the CPU FSB, clock, and RAM seperately?

um..why cant u just set your bios to user defined. i dunno wut the prob coulb be

Because this isn't a perfect world, and it is not possible on any motherboard existing today. Do some research before overclocking, please. It's quite sad that you didn't know that the clock spead is determined by the FSB multiplied by the multiplier (thus the name). On the P4s, the FSB you hear about (800mhz) is the speed after it is quad-pumped. The RAM is also determined by the FSB, but it is only double-pumped. This means that if your FSB is at 200, then your RAM will be running at DDR400 (PC-3200).

My mobo can overclock them seperatly... Maybe no Intel mobo can? :)

as far as i know, there is no commercial intel or amd mobo that can clock the cpu or RAM fsb seperately, you can lock the AGP and PCI, but not the RAM, that has to be in sync with the cpu FSB

I am running my CPU at 133mhz (266) and memory at 166mhz (333) just for kicks :)

I have these types of settings on my Epox 8RDA+:
Memory Frequency = 100%
Memory Timing = Expert
T(RAS) = 7
T(RCD) = 3
T(RP) = 3
CAS Latency = 2.5
(no, these are not MY settings, they are from the Epox FAQ, I dont remember mine)

Just alter the 100% to 133% or 150% or whatever and it goes higher than the FSB.

im picking up some 3700 OCZ 512X2 this week to oc my 2.4c system to 3.2 or so 1:1

you can hit 3.0 but your gonna have to run 5:4 like i am now with the 3200 :(

for your question, set it to manual.
what mainboard is it?

Ok, you have an Abit IS7-G(complaints) which I have too. First, what's you timings on your memory? 3:4, 1:1? Anyways, make sure it is at a reasonable setting. Now, boot into the bios and there will be an option were you type in a number starting from 133(i think) and you can raise all the way up so it would be a 5ghz o/c. Now, remember you will only be raising the FSB, which will raise the clock speed, but don't rush it. If you need me to guide you through it step-by-step aim me.

My aim name:

kelisismofo

I'm going to school, but I will be back later this afternoon. ;)

Omg, you, ankalar and kelisis are obviously retarded. You dont think i knew all that shit there ankalar? All i asked was if there was a way to change the multiplier... I already had mine running at 2.8ghz with 233FSB, 1:1 RAM ratio before i posted, so please stfu ankalar...

Heh, putting all that stress on that little beauty of yours, and mine goes faster while sleeping. :p

To help you out with OC'ing though, you can't do it all separately. Try in BIOS setting it to user defined, that might work.

Lol, guinny how else would you like me to OC? Its not under any stress and is perfectly stable where it is. Its been running prime95 for almost 10 hours. Im gonna try for 250FSB with 3.0, not sure about RAM divider yet. Just 10 more minutes.

Oh and the load temps are not getting higher then 55C.

You can't change the multiplier on a P4. Dawdler, I was talking about all Intel mobos, sorry if I didn't make myself clear.

Wow. your such a nice guy! How was I supposed to know that you knew all that?! Cuz the thread said you need help in o/c! But, w/e I don't care, I was just trying to help. Anyways, don't aim me cuz you are ass. BTW, I have o/c my 2.4c to 4ghz :p

Even though I know your full of shit, I couldn't help but not laugh.;(

well if you have over 2ghz+ you dont really even need to overclock....

My uncle who works at micro$oft can teach me how to oc to 5ghz on my 3.0ghz p4 with little stress on the cpu. However, he's a semi alcoholic and I wouldn't trust him with a spoon...but it is possible, ive gotten confirmation from more than his mouth. Maybe i should attempt it one day, when my comp becomes so obsolete that itll be a last attempt to leap up into the times without spending a dime.:dozey:

I cant get it over 3.0... I tried upping the vcore to 1.55, still no good. Then i tried for 1.75 it was a little more stable but temps were at 58C.

Told ya to go with the standard 3.0 igneri. But hey man, don't be let down, your comp is still better than 98% of the hl community.

Oh believe me, im not done yet;) Im still 100% confident i can hit 3.3 or higher with some tweaks.

Haha, I lied, I plan on getting it that high once I get my watercooling kit. And I can do it with this top secret kit I'm getting...So watch...Haha, I'm going to laugh at you when I do it...lmao

 :O :stare: :| :dozey: ;( :x

LOL kelisis! You expect to get 4ghz on WC!!! YEAH RIGHT! Your lucky you get 4ghz with VAPOCHILL. The highest youll probably get is 3.7.

No "top secret" kit can get you cool enough to overclock to 4ghz. You'd have to have a water chiller, but that would be too expensive to be worth the overclock. Not even with a Cascade, a super radiator, and an Iwaki pump can you get it to 4ghz. The only thing watercooling does is give you quieter cooling, a safer overclocking experience, and something cool to show out of your case window. You should probably re-think your plans, buddy.

PS: guinny, you can't overclock anything to 5ghz, not even if you lived in Antarctica.

Here i come guinny! Shes running at 3.0 1000FSB right now, stable. Stress it for awhile and go some more. Im going to try and up the vdimm to see if i can get 250FSB 1:1.

He's already passed you, guinny. In fact, he probably passed you in performance when he got to about 2.8.

Um, I'm at 3.0 with 1000fsb, without my shit touched. If i was oc'ing like him i'd leave him in my dust. oc'ing is pointless, and he's wearing his parts out faster by doing this.

Ok, so i get a year out of the CPU, probably 18 months. Thats fine with me cause i intend on upgrading some components each summer. And i wont always keep it running this high. Optimal performance, without upping vcore and 100% stability is at 2.8/233FSB 1:1 ratio.

I upped the vcore to 5.55 at 2.9.

Im going for 3.12 right now.

Ok, haha maybe I'm being sarscastic, but I am going to o/c it high...probaly not 4ghz, but hey a person has done it before! And he was watercooling...It's possible, but this topic secret watercooling kit has a forumla that nobody has ever used, that's why I have high plans on why it will rock. Hmmm, maybe I should go and buy an $800 promethia kit! Haha, lmao!

They O/Ced it to 4ghz with a Vapochill, not watercooling. Also, there is no special thing you can use to get it that cool unless you're making some sort of diamond waterblock.

/me awaits the data loss and false virus reports on their overclocked machines. :cheese:
