Hey , i have a question:

My (just new) system:

Asus P4P800 Mobo
Intel 2.8 ghz 800 fsb
Ati Radeon 9700 pro
256 pc-2700 ddr ram. ( one stick)

3dmark03 score: 4780 wtf? This should be higher right?

Ive installed the Intel update utility, wich raised my score 600 points.
Could this be my ram?
If i buy 2 sticks of 256 pc-3200 ram, will this raise my score to 5800 or something? (wich it's supposed to be )

well you can see what i have via my sig. and i get a 3dmark03 score of 5001 no oc'ing at all.. oc'ing just a tad bit to a 2.52 and a few clicks up core/ram i get a 5800 score :).

so your score is not that far off, and i don't even have that intel thing installed.. i don't see how you got it installed with that asus mobo.

3dmark03 is a graphics benchmark, it doesnt benchmark the entire system.

If you want to benchmark the entire system, you have to use 3dmark01.

no that is a lie, your cpu will affect your score.

EDIT: not only that, but you SHOULD NOT use 3dmark01 becuase 3dmark03 deals with more dx9 and graphical issues. it always does test your card more than your comp does in 01, but for newer cards, 9700/9800 you should stick with 3dmark03

Quotidian , you're right : The cpu DOES matter in 3dmark03.

But i still haven't got a answer to my question :D

Why wouldnt I be able to install that with my mobo...? :p

It allows AGP to be used...with was on 0x when i didnt install it.

I think you confuse this with the Intel application accelerator or something.

Btw you have a 2.4 ghz 800 fsb, i have a 2.8 ghz 800 fsb, so i should have more points then you :p

Could this be my ram?

CPU affects your score *some* in 3dmark03, but far less than it should. lettme see if I can find that articale.....no, i'll keep looking but the article had a p3 400mhz and a p4 2.4ghz computer with 9700pro cards, and the 400mhz machine scored within 500 3D03marks of the p4 machine. which doesn't represent the actual performance of the machine.

Aslo, 3DMark03 can't really claim to be a dx9 benchmark, as it only uses ps/vs2.0 in mothernature and in the test for that specificly.

My persoanly favorite benchmark is Aquamark 3

How can i get more points, because even for 3dmark03: this score is just TOO LOW for my system.

Btw in 3dmark01se with 330 patch i get: 14304. Is that normal?

ECK!!! your kidding!??!?! aquamakr 3 !??!?!? i think its terrible!!!

i got a 17,000 in aquamark 3, when people with identical comps to mine get upwords of 35,000,

and i did confuse it with intel accel.

my my chipset is not intel its sis or wahtever, you have agp 8x right?

EDIT: i am also un-able to turn on AGP fastwrites. yet its enabled in my bios, its a very very very very very odd situation, that i decided i gave up on after days and days of consulting many resources, that i dind't need it on anyway.

Yeah, Sidewinder is right. I worded my post wrong. I meant that 3dmark03 is primarily a graphics benchmark, which means it relies less on the CPU than on the GPU.

Then again, if you want to know your CPU speed, just use PCMark(from the same company).

As far as I have seen, Aquamark3 has been accepted as the basic benchmark now..... If you only got 17K wiht your syste,, there's something wrong... I got 23551 witha p4 1.8Ghz, 512mb pc2100, and a 9600pro (abit the 9600pro has been memory flashed upto cas1 and oced quite a bit... :) )

What is "Intel update utility"?

44,243 on aquamark. 5804 3dmark03, and 16453 on 3dmark01.

These are the P4 scores.

I'm not sure if I like Aquamark 3 more than any other true gaming benchmark, but unlike 3DMark, AquaMark is based on a real gaming engine, so its results should represent real world performance in at least some games. The thing is, the engine AquaMark 3 is based on is quite different than any other engine, so AquaMark 3's results are not truely indictative of any real game's performance except Aquanox 3, and the games that will be based on its engine (I don't know of any, yet).

cool, i just ran aquamark. After getting constant 19,000's i changed a few things in my bios and now I score 44,500. My 3DMark03 is at 6100.

It's based off the AquaNox 2 engine :)
But it does tell you how you'll computer run in games that use the same shaders.

My main gripe is that it is multi-threaded and most games aren't. It's cool that they have a multi-threaded engine, but the large majority of games still do not, so that can give a large boost to CPUs with HT that won't be seen in most games.
