New screenshots and a interview here.

2 Days 2 Vegas is a third person game somewhere between a movie, and an action/adventure game, rolled into a thrilling story line. Although Steel Monkey is still relatively tight lipped about specifics, they gave us in an exclusive interview with the only new information on the game since 2005. Why the lack of press on the game? He told us that they purposely had tried to stay under the radar with this game.

[...]

He wasn’t able to give us specifics on the places we would be able to visit, but when asked about the level of detail, he told us that the game had several cities on the route in the game fully scaled and modeled so that the entire experience would be true to driving the city. He went on to say that several of the out of city areas would hopefully carry that attention to detail, from fields in the plains to mountains in the Rockies. They wouldn’t know how much detail they would be able to have in the natural settings until the polish stage.

[...]

The in-house nature, he explained, allowed them to do some original and amazing things that they felt helped the immersive feel of the game. One of the things they are working on right now is a “garbage generator”, a program that is supposed to create trash and clutter in the city streets. When you don’t wash your windows, they get dusty.

[...]

**Edwin Loo assured us that all the screenshots that he provided are completely in game and not pre-rendered.

I'm sensing an uncanny valley.

In terms of terrain, not people.

Forgot all about this! Wouldn't mind knowing some more about it.

Those screens in-game? Kinda look like pre-renders.

While I'm still interested in seeing how it actually plays, this game definitely has my eye.

Those environments look ****ing NICE. Never heard of the game though.

I'll have to be the pessimist and disagree, I think the environments looks bland and unrealistic as hell, they just look too samey and repetitive, and not dirty enough, but I guess it might still have quite some time in development, still, the environments looks worse than Crackdowns imo, but then again, Crackdown has one of the most impressive ingame cities ever built.:)

Looks cool but the Light effects REALLY SUCKS, it tunes down the good graphics too, they really gotta work on that.

Reflections on the black car makes it look real, the shadows are nice too, other then that it's nothing special.

that is a nice looking game. Hopefully the environment will offer a level of interaction comparable to the graphics. What I would love to see is destructible buildings with these graphics, but I feel that we are a ways off from seeing game like that.

The shadows aren't a bit nice at all imo, they're not soft in any way, look totally unrealistic..

I was wowed back then. I am mehed now.

Games should look pretty, but gameplay had better be quite different or you're just another GTA clone. (No, I don't think Crackdown was different enough and I personally disliked the graphical style.)

Is it me or does the interior of the car look bland as hell?

Haha, surely you jest?

Thats how cities look. They are repetitive and samey because they were all build the same way and at the same time usually. And I dont know where you live, but in any city ive been too the buildings dont normally get much dirtier than they are in this game. Also, shadows are more often hard edged than soft... especially out doors. Sunlight = hard shadows unless there is an overcast, which there isnt in the screenshots.

And yeah, the interior of the car is a bit bland... but ffs... its the interior of the car. We will see it for like .2 seconds, so why waste resources with more detail and texture resolution.

EDIT: eh... i guess it is overcast in the first screenshot. The car shouldnt have that black or harsh a shadow as it does.

I'm just saying, why feature it as an in game screenshot when it's all about showing off when the interior isn't impressive at all...he could have been standing on the outside, or leaning on the car or something, instead of flashing ugly car insides.

Krynn72, I am serious though, I don't find those screenshots a bit realistic, if anything they look more unrealistic than Saint's Rows environments.. And in the country where I live, the shadows cast by high buildings are never as crisp as those, I have never ever seen a building IRL cast shadows with as hard edges as Doom 3 has, which this game looks like it has.. The shadows over here from buildings are usually about as hard as the ones in Crackdown.
Oh well, the new version of the Doom 3 engine will be the first graphics engine with a true implenetation of softshadows, calculating the softness, colour etc based off real-life variables, i.e. intensity of the light source, distance cast, etc etc.

I think it looks very good, definitely a significant step up from the current next gen GTA clones (Saints Row and Crackdown). It's amazing really, especially considering how many cities/open road they're planning on packing into the game.

It'll be interesting to see how GTA IV stacks up. We've already seen a bit of the next gen Getaway using some PS2 assets and it looks amazing, that will probably be the most graphically impressive of the GTA style games when it releases.

That third screenshot makes me want to buy a PS3. It's beautiful. Definately watching this one. It's possibly going to be a $650 game for me.

I won't lie...I'm liking the game. I'll definitely see how it pans out.

I hope it dont becomes another gta clone

and since they say they want to add gameplay whit movie style them I expect something more like driver mixed whit max payne

I'm guessing this will be Saints Row with better graphics???

I'm seeing Uncanny Environments, and on further inspection I do see an Uncanny Valley thing with those guys.

And there's something seriously wrong with everything in that town.

This game is scheduled for the PS3, AND the 360 and PC.. So no need to buy a PS3 for this specifically..:p
