2 hl2 questions you probally can answer

me and a friend were arguing about some nonsense i was just wondering if somebody could clear these up for me.

because Vampire: Bloodlines is already slated for shader 3.0. will hl2 also have shader 3.0 imported even tho valve is partners with ati, and ATi's lineup wont have shader 3.0 until Q3 of 04?

and what are the max texture resolutions hl2 will have?

If Crytek can import 3.0 in a week, I don't see why Valve can't update HL2 to do the same. Who knows, perhaps they already have.
 
i just thought they might not have 3.0 at all due to their partnership to ati.
 
They've said that at release HL2 won't support ps3.0,
but they will update the game with higher res textures
and other features over time. They also confirmed that
they plan to use ps3.0 in the future.

From VERC FAQ:

Q: What format do textures need to be created in for HL2?

A: Texture source art is now a TGA file (24-bit, or 32-bit with alpha). They have a maximum size of 2048 x 2048*, and the size must be power of 2
 
ah ok thanks, do you know the maximum texture res they said?
edit: and the 3.0 sounds about right putting it in the future as ati's next card after the r420 will have ps3.0
 
They will be updating the engine to support ps3.0 over time, as well as any major new technologies.
