"Today Ubisoft announced that its Montreal Studio is developing two new titles in the Far Cry Instincts franchise. Far Cry Instincts Next Chapter for the Xbox, and Far Cry Instincts Predator for Xbox 360, which will include the original Far Cry product as well as the Far Cry Next Chapter."

piss me off that there's no pc version ..the pc version is superior in every way to the console versions ..it showed so much promise then somehow they dropped the ball with the community ...I wonder how soon before sequels that dont make it to the pc become the norm

lol the next splinter cell/pop
they should try developing something NEW and original instead of milking a franchise for all its worth

No PC version?? That's really lame..... They should just port the 360 Instincts over to the PC... or perhaps they'll announce something later on for the PC.

Looking forward to it. Enjoyed Instincts a great deal, especially its improved storyline. Of course it was in many ways inferior to the PC version, but either way, was still awesome.

Far Cry Instincts Predator looks pretty bad for X360. Its definately not the same as the CryEngine 2 video, so a proper Far Cry 2 might be in development for PC using that technology.

Well, if Far Cry 2(non-instincts) comes to PC, then I'm good. Otherwise, heads will roll.

Same Samon, tbh, I overall enjoyed Instincts more, but I think if they did a sequel that took some of the ideas from Instincts into a PC sequel, that'd be great, and yes torso, that looks very shiet for being X360..
If you look at the HUD, it basically looks like all they've done is put the game into a higher resolution.

I wonder what kind of monster will be required to run CryEngine 2..
And I'm kinda worried about DX10, recent reports state the Microsoft aren't going for backwards compatability with previous DX, hopefully they'll change their minds tho..:)

it could be screens for the xbox version

I enjoyed far cry instincts (played through half of it) but it didnt give me that "oooooh ahhhh" that the pc version did

ubisoft own the fc rights now whereas crytek i believe were bought up by EA(i think), cryengine2 will have some kinda far cry 2 i assume, maybe not a direct sequel to fc but something similiar..

Oh well.
Never was the biggest fan of FC.
Nice engine, but that's it... The game sucked ass.

"EAP's partnership agreement with Crytek is a testament to our commitment to nurturing creative development and we are delighted to be working with one of the brightest talents in Europe to create what we believe will be an innovative gaming experience."
EAP is Electronic Arts Partners.:)

Not really bought up but they are in a partnership atleast.

Instincts had a withstandable storyline and Stephen Dorff, so I enjoyed that vastly more than the PC verision.

Too bad pc-gamers don't pay for their games.

.bog.

I really liked the PC version. Much more than many of the forgetable FPS games since. I hope that they create a PC version. If they port a console version over to the PC I wouldn't be interested though.

Correct.

The people behind FarCry are making a game with DX10 that will come out on Windows Vista launch. I wouldnt worry to much.

Ugh.. Vista..
It might turn out alright, but the fact that DX10 ain't backwards compatible kinda turns me HUGELY off..
Oh well, might buy one of those Vista designed comps that'll be coming at the launch.. If I can afford one of'em that is.

Wait up, not backwards compatible? Meaning you can't play any DX9 and lower games with a DX10 card?

I _think_ he means that dx10 will require windows vista.

Looking good - let's hope it keeps the best bits from the pc and Xbox versions and skips the crappier bits.

boglito, I'm not sure actually, I just remember several sites saying that DX10 wouldn't be compatible with older DX games and they'd need to be "emulated"(Or maybe patched) to run on DX10.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Oh well, at least it's coming out at all.

What a shame about the Far Cry franchise. Good thing CryTek will bring back the goods with whatever game they are developing for Vista because the demo looked fargin amazing!

But adding more enemies and such to an average game and such and then releasing it for a next-gen console makes me think "greedy, lazy bastards." Maybe try developing a game that is actually made for the technology instead of just re-issuing a game that maybe uses a little bit of the system's huge power. What a waste. Reminds me of Gun--it gets almost no better on the 360 than any other platform because it wasn't originally developed for it. Again, a shame.

Did you play the Xbox verision? Instincts was a lot different than Far Cry PC. It wasn't just a rehash.

Link plz, because i havnt read anything like this. It will kill to many games if that were true.

I don't have one, but I read it in several articles, it was this site that linked up to like a huge amount of articles on Vista.

Edit: I found a link, http://news.softpedia.com/news/DirectX-10-and-so-it-ends-7762.shtml

"Even so, dear Microsoft hasn't totally forgotten us. Some sort of “compatibility” will be available through a software layer (probably some emulation) which will have its price in system resources, as it will run much slower. The good news is that DirectX 10 will relieve some of the burden on the CPU."

Question is(If this is true that is) HOW much slower..?

sucks.
i hate when PC versions get dropped for whatever reason especially when sensible gamers know that fps games are best suited for computers.

Wow, sounds like Microsoft is kinda shooting themselves in the foot on this one, since the library of games using even just DirectX 9 is so extensive that they're stupid to not have direct backwards compatibility.

See sig.

Seriously though, Far Cry really really wasn't all that. It was gorgeous (in a Technicolour, "Am I on a gay cruise acid trip?" kind of a way), the scale was impressive and the mercenaries' AI was fantastic, but as soon as the mutants got involved it became boring boring boring. Totally run-of-the-mill, unimaginative drivel.

maybe it's because I'm from the Magnum generation (Thomas kept talking to me while I was playing, I never did find TJ though) but I really liked Far Cry ...story? what story? I almost always skip cutscenes so I rarely follow the story anyways ..the game for me kinda fell apart after the monsters with the huge guns showed up

I spent hours driving the boats or hang gliding or sneaking up on enemies and kicking barrels into their faces ...it was tons of fun

wha? you've never been?

I disagree about the mutants thing. The Jurassic Park style level where they had all escaped and were tangling with the mercenaries were great (I ended up getting chased around, getting lost in the jungle until everyone was dead and being hunted by the damn things). They were scary with their haevy breathing and three-hit-kill claws.

AND THEN THE LEVEL WHERE THEY ALL GOT OUT AND LIKE STARTED REVOLTING AGAINST THE MERCS OH THEY WERE REVOLTING THE MUTANTS ARE REVOLTING YEP YOU CAN SMELL THEM A MILE OFF GOOD CHRIST THEY CAN SHOOT YOU A MILE OFF BIG WAR OH SHIT THIRTY MUTANTS VS FORTRESS AN ENTIRE ISLAND CONSUMED BY CHAOS AS HORRIBLE CREATURES RACE THROUGH THE JUNGLES AND THE CLIFFTOPS BRISTLE WITH GUNFIRE! DRIVING A JEEP THROUGH THE SHIT, BOUNCING OFF TREES IN THE DARK AND SUDDENLY THIS THING IN YOUR HEADLIGHTS BUT THEN IT"S OVER YOUR BONNET AND OVER YOUR ROOF AND OH GOD A CLIFF

SO true. And how can you forget about the night jungle levels, and the hang-glider, and, and, and... F*CK STORY! This game is the shit.

I agree. :imu:

It was great, until you had to fight those monsters which required an entire clip to kill.

Woah there! Let's not be comparing this nonsense to Jurassic Park. The kind of moster-y mutants weren't SO bad, but the kind of human-y ones were just like a hundred Strogg-esque enemies we've seen a hundred times before, served in a big bowl of who-gives-a-sh*t. :hmph:
Their AI wasn't as impressive as the mercs - substituting clever hunting teamwork for backflips and invisibility does not a good twist make.

I completely agree. I found the monkey/monster trigen to be a great addition to the game. The first level when you meet them was one of my faves.

The 'human' rocket launching trigen were the opposite - being the worst 'Doom rejects' imaginable. They looked stupid, were stupid, and destroyed much of the atmosphere.

Far Cry on the pc was at times excellent (better than the best bits of HL2 imo), and at others complete generic pap (worst than the worst bits of Doom3) - which is a shame.

I refer, of course, to the crazy animal ape-creatures. They were awesome. I agree that the Fatboys and other, more humanoid enemies were slightly less so. By 'Jurassic Park style level' I mean the first one that Warbie referenced: gantries above the treetops and ravenous beasts below.

Yeah, the worst part of Far Cry were the Cyberdemon wannabes. Fighting the mercs was awesome though and the mutant monkeys were pretty cool. I'm very irritated that all of these new games are console exclusive. I mean WTF? I hope they make a Far Cry 2 that's PC exclusive on that awesome new Cryengine they showed.

Oh, actually that bit was awesome, but partly because although there were the "good" mutants (as a relative term to the humanoid ones), you were still fighting mercs.
Fun for all the family.

The bad thing about those ape monsters was that their swipes would miss by miles and yet they would still damage you.
