2 strange things, Please help!!

Hi!
Im new here, actually my first post.
Now, i have just played half life 2 and episode one, and i would now like to play half life 2 deathmatch (online) but when i search for servers and try to join a message says: "Your version does not match the serves. Please restart the game", now how do i get it to work?
Oh and also, i dont know if this helps/has anything to do with it, when i start hl2 the console comes up and in the console it says some random stuff and:

--- Missing Vgui material vgui/steam/games/icon_cs
--- Missing Vgui material vgui/steam/games/icon_hl2mp
--- Missing Vgui material vgui/steam/games/icon_dod
--- Missing Vgui material vgui/servers/icon_secure_deny


So anyone PLEASE help me! i love this game and i would love to play online!

Verify you HL2 DM cache using Steam. Right click and the option should present itself to you.
 
yes but theres another thing, i dont run it with steam, i just clikc on the shortcut i have, in steam i have cs 1.6 and CZ
anyway i can get hl2 to steam?

Right. So it's a pirated copy then. NO doubt about it, when you admit it runs without Steam.

Dude, chill down, my cousin had my computer a week or so, and he installed it, i didnt ask how.. so chill the FU** down!!
 
Maybe this ****in shit forum wasent a good idea after all when all i wanted was some help, blame my cousin for donwloading stuff..

FilluX, I'll help you out with your problem. First uninstall whatever version of half-life 2 you have now, then go to the store and buy the game (you can even buy it over Steam if you have a credit card), install it, get it all updated, and your problems should be solved.

I just dont understand why guys here get so angry when i ask a question about a game, when i didnt know it was downloaded. but whatever...

Don't care what you "want". It's not "your" game, because you didn't buy it. It is stolen. And you were stupid enough to ask for help with it on a site supported by the people who made the game that you stole. I think a strongly negative reaction towards you / your "friend / cousin / brother / mother / cat / cup of coffee" and whoever else you want to blame is quite understandable.

I find it unlikely that you actually will now go out and buy the game, or that you didn't know it was a stolen copy. And you DON'T understand why a site supported by the guys you stole a game from would be angry? You're an idiot.

Believe it or not, some people don't know as much about gaming and computers as people who are dedicated members of a forum based entirely around gaming and computers.

FilluX, go buy the game. Your cousin is a dick, and HL2 is worth the money.

I might be blunt, "rough around the edges", "tell it like it is", "straight to the point", "take no bullsh*t" etc, but I am not a troll. I actually believe in what I say, and make points to back-up my claims. Just because I don't sugar-coat things, and people like you can't understand the difference between intentional inflammatory statements and the blunt truth, doesn't mean that your lack of intelligence earns me an incorrect label.

Jumping into a thread JUST to make an off topic, inflammatory and insulting post - just like you have - is far closer to trolling than anything I do.

Agreed. But the game, it's worth it.
Technically, what your brother didn't isn't really stealing. One can steal a car, or steal a brick, or steal a beer, since when you take them, the person who had it is deprived of it. It really be stealing if you took the only copy that Valve had.
That doesn't mean that it's okay, of course. I just think the term "unauthorized copying" is a bit more accurate.
