Now for those of you who have played the latest demo of Far Cry, i want to know whether or not you're opinion of the game has been raised or lowered.

My opinion of it has been raised. This demo gives a little more information about the story of it. I thought the graphics were great before-hand but now i think they're just absolutely gorgous .Except i have some strange error with the rocks and shadows, from a distance the rocks have these black jagged triangles all over them, same with the shadows on the guns and people sometimes.

I reckon that demo is really good during the outside portion of it but once it hits the inside portion it becomes unplayable, Its just so buggy and the frame-rate drops so much its just unplayable, as i said. The A.I is good, it would be great if they had a melee attack though :D but the aiming bugs me a bit, i dunno what it is about it that bugs me, kinda feels laggy. oh well.

Now that i've played this demo of Far Cry, the only thing standing in the way of buying it is that shadow bug and framerate drops.

There's already a topic about this, but who gives a damn...
After trying the first demo I was sure about getting it, after trying the 2nd demo I DON'T WANT IT! I hate monster games (except Half-Life2 and DOOMIII)! It ruins everything!

Sorry i just added the poll then, that was the point of this topic, sorry for the delay

Uhhhhh! I hadn't noticed the poll! WOOWOO!!
/me votes now

My feelings:

First demo: Hmmm nice game, this could turn out to be pretty nice. Never had the GOTY feeling though.

Second demo: This blows... this really really really sucks ass. Pretty much everything was bad in my opinion.

Maybe the editor of the game is good enough to get the game when it's prices have dropped a bit. But as for now, I won't even bother thinking about buying it. Other bad sp games compensate with having excellent mp, but the mp beta sucked even more than the second map.

both demos are ok. hate the helicopter explotions. cheap shit. the flashlight sucks.

flashlight looks good IMHO.

and I don't understand all the complaining about monsters...I mean, it wasn't a secret, ever since I heard about FarCry I knew about the monsters....doesn't change anything.

If you have a geforce, its neither a bug nor framerate drops, its TWIMTBP baby!!! :p

So where can one download the 2nd demo? All I've heard is that the downloadable version is buggy as hell, the only good version was the "official" from the PCG disc. Dont care though, Far Cry is not my style of game. The first demo didnt impress me that much due to insanely stupid AI (I dont understand where all the praises is coming from, we must have two different games), although its very pretty.

Let's put it this way- I was excited about this game until the second demo.

Seems to be quite common... strange...

i feel bad for crytek. everyone loved the game...now that there is monsters involved why does everyone hate it????//

Yeah kinda sad since the textures were so good. I had just expected some badass cop "me-smash-all-evil-yes-game", but monsters?! Get the hell out of here...

I think that the reason everyoe hates it now is the fact that it's a been-there-done-that feel. The second demo was also lacking in many areas.

The first demo demonstrated the size and scope of the game. It was a huge map, there was multiple ways to get to the top of the mountain, it had many vehicles, hordes of bad guys, and a fresh look at something that hasn't been implemented to a great extent in games...the scenery.

The second demo was lacking in size, it was fairly linear (go into cave and follow tunnelled areas), there was only one vehicle (the boat that comes in once the enemy radios for help) although you couldn't really go anywhere with it, there wasn't much to shoot at, and there have been great problems with the visuals.

The first demo built itself up. you started on a boat, went to a bunch of smaller islands, and then scaled the big one to blow up the radar dish. With the second demo, there wasn't any mission presented, and the ending wasn't prticularly satisfying. The first demo lasted the better part of 30 minutes, unless you are trying to speed through it. The second barely takes up ten.

In conclusion...

This second demo is leaving a bad taste in peoples mouth simply because it is missing all the things that made the first one so enjoyable. Like any sequel, it is hard to live up to the challenges and surprises of the original.

I would still like to see a third demo though, perhaps one that takes place at night. As long as this third demo will contain the positives of the two demos before it, I think the fatih in FarCry will be restored.

I didn't know there was a second demo... but from the sounds of it I won't be downloading it...
I probably wouldn't anyway with my 256 megs of RAM. I mean playing the first one was laggy enough. It never could quite cache everything, constantly freezing from so much HD activity and then windows would run low on virtual memory causing me to reboot sometimes...

wow lol their sells would have been alot better if they hadnt released a demo in the first place it seems! Anyways I never played the original demo cause when I dled it it was just...gone. I looked where I put it but it wasnt there..I dled again and samething happened so screw it. I dont wanna try it now that it has such negative feedback. poor poor farcry so many were anticipating you....

i think the game looks AMAZING! I don't know if some of you played it on shitty computers but if you Up everything to Ultra High, then your in for a treat at 1600x1200. Only Gripe is that I encountered MAJOR framerate drop anywhere where there was dynamic lighting. (The caves) I bet your opnions will change once the game comes out

They just don't belong there, quite frankly they look ridiculous. If they were well designed and fitted the island environment I could have possibly liked it, but these guys make me laugh.

And A True Canadian, I think you've got a point there. The second demo lacked everything that was enjoyable in the first one. But even if the rest of the game is of the level of the first demo, I'm not gonna buy it. But in that case it's not a bad game anymore and well just fun, but if this second demo represents more than the quality of 5 levels or something, I don't wanna touch it with a 10-foot pole.

Doesn't look too good to me, the AI is stupid, the physics are stupid, it's not got much depth to it......so i'll get it from a bargain bin in a years time :)

Yeah i'll agree, the game does look amazing but my problem is with the Framerate. I've got a really good computer all round, but apparently you need a FREAKING AMAZING computer for Far Cry to run well. I'd prefer to play a game that runs well and looks good rather then runs shit but looks great.

Anybody having sound problems with this? My sound is so f'ed up and I can't figure out why.
Also, is anyone else as dependent upon the binoculars as me? If it wasn't for them I would never be able to even find the bad guys. They blend in too well with all that foliage. What, do they have camoflauge or something...

Yeah i have MAJOR sound problems with Far Cry as well, never happened to me in any other game but Far Cry

I'm definitely looking forward to it more after playing this demo!

And there's certainly not a damn thing wrong with having monsters in it! It spices it up! Would you rather just have to deal with regular old soldiers all the time? No! It adds a horror atmosphere that, judging by the caves area, seems to work VERY well!

The silenced gun freaks me out. I can't tell if I'm shooting and having any effect. Is that accurate? Are silencers really that good? I end up whipping out the deagle just to hear the 'pow!' when I fire - just to know I'm doing something.

the silenced gun = unfinished. no sound effect.

these demos are betas at best IMHO. I mean, I have a pretty good PC, but it runs slowww for me at times. at medium details I get a whopping 30FPS... *sigh*

BTW, the monsters make PERFECT sence. read up on the story before bitching about it please.

It has a sound I know, but it's a near-silent sound... heh.

Also, I managed to crash the engine by doing the following. I took the elevator up to the room where you see the two creatures escape in a vent. I then shot the two technicians into the elevator and rode it down. One of them wasn't all the way in the elevator when it started down, so he flipped out (literally) and cartwheeled into the center of the elevator. I expected something like this would happen, and I tried it again when the elevator reached the bottom. This time I shot the other technician so he was lying face up, normal lying down position, legs pointing outwards, (out of the elevator) and pressed the elevator button. The door closed on his thigh area, his legs disappeared into the floor, he seemed to flip into the same convulsion that the first one had done on the way down, but this time I saw one frame of uber-flippyness, with him all bent out of shape and legs everywhich way, and then the engine gave a critical stop error and I was thrown out to the desktop (which turned the default blue windows xp desktop, I had to change it back.) I'd have thought if a ragdoll went out of bounds they'd have it disappear or something- not crash the whole engine.

I think Research was more to show you how you would progress from objective to objective. Or at least the thinking and strategy involved to take out the guys and move on. Nothing more, in my opinion. I didn't think it (and hope it isn't) a representation of the game as much as the first. It's far too short and the exploration is far to limited on that map.

I though the first demo was a better representation of the game and levels but because it was rather linear and easy, it needed the 2nd to give you the rest of the information (strategy).

I expect the final game to have as large (and much larger) environment as the first demo (Multiple paths etc). Also to have elements of the 2nd demo (like the strategy).

People can have their opinions about the game whether they dislike it because of the monsters or love it because of the environment/gfx. I think it will be as good of a game as I originally thought from my first impressions.

But as always, H2 > FC.

I enjoyed the 2nd demo just as much as the first. A big plus for the 2nd demo is the large jungle combat in the beginning of the level. Since you can't take out a dozen enemies all at once, you're forced to come up with a strategy. Which enemy will be taken out first? Where can you take cover? Which weapon to use in what situation? I've already played it three times through and it's never the same. I'm definitly gonna buy Far Cry on the day it's released!

i think that all this shite about monsters is getting old... the only reason Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 aren't being looked down upon is cause they are sequels to games made 5-10 years ago... Far Cry is new...

If far cry was just "kill teh terrorists on pretty islands cause they are bad mofos..." i would buy it... but they added this line to the story "and they found evil monsters in teh caves... kill them 2!"... what a waste :hmph:

Exactly my point! And I hadn't expected those monsters at all! Ray told me about them but I thought he was joking....unfortunatly...

There needed to be a reason for the military commandos to be on these islands in the first place.

The FarCry story starts out as a kidnapping and the expands into a conspiracy. I thought it was good to have twists in games these days. Isn't that what we want? A compelling story to magnify the gameplay? Why would adding these things to the game make it bad?

It's not a TWIST if we know about it before the game is even released.

Many of these people didn't even know abouut the monsters until the second demo. And now that they do know about them they are quick to put the game down because they do not understand why they are there.

I really don't know what I'm trying to get at, but I'm not sure why everyone's so unhappy because of these monsters. I mean, do you guys really want to run around killing the same basic soldiers in uniform? Or would you rather have the challenge of taking down an enemy that is different from the lot?

Commandos can't hold our interests for long because we know their strengths and weaknesses. We know that a head shot will take them down; we know that they can operate machinery and we know they become dangerous in packs. With monsters, we do not know these traits. Monsters add to the atmosphere of the game. After seeing the cutscene of the guy getting killed by that monster (although being the most crappiest scene in recent memory) there was an added sense of fear when entering the caves because you didn't know what to expect.

Yeah, but non-beta testers haven't even gotten to know what that'll be like at all... I thought they might release a public demo? They should... tomorrow! :)
