Hey
ive had 3 red lights on my 360 before i just switched it off and on again, but that didn't work this time. Does this mean my xbox 360 is dead or has anyone found a new way to make it work again?

Return it and get a new one, sorry.

Was it a 360 from 2005? All my friends with 360's made in 2005 have had theirs die

cheers for that link, ive tried everythin they say to do on that list and it dosn't work. Cheers anyways.

i foned them up and it turns out my warrenty runn out next week so im lucky to get it repair unwarrenty lolz

lol, Luke, told you it would go soon. Lucky you had a week left :P

I know three people who have had 360s die on them (one of which is my roommate, which means I can't play it anymore). The launch consoles seriously have a one year lifespan, no exaggeration. This seems like a much bigger deal to me than people are making, but whatever.

Oh wait, Sony released another TV advert ... that's much more worthy of condemnation.

Or, they made a bad advert which, funnily enough (!), people expressed their opinions on. Uh oh!

I've had the 3 Red Lights once or twice, but it was the 'Amber' warning which meant my power box thingy wasn't connected properly. Easily solved.

So 360s can just die? Man that sucks. It's really put me off getting one. Or is it only 1st generation models?

I've never had a problem with a Nintendo console. Or my XBox.

The problem is mainly with the earlier models ... at least all the people I've known that had them die owned earlier models. I have to say that it's probably the most significant launch problem I've ever seen. I used to think the PS2 launch lasers dying after a year or so was bad, but at least the thing still worked.

Wait.. So what about 360's that were made near the end of this past year?

Lucky with that warranty, dude.

New consoles have a quieter DVD drive, I've read. Hope you get one of those.

I read about a 3% failure rate for the Xbox 360 but I've got to wonder if that is an average and the earlier consoles had a much higher failure rate than that. It sure sounds it.

I had four flashing red lights a few days back. Was like "OH MY FREAKING GAWD!!!!" but then found out it was the Xbox 360's way of telling me that I hadn't plugged in the cable to my monitor. :upstare:

Oh sure, I can laugh about it now... :hmph:

There is no way of telling which, when and why the consoles do it, just the most drastic occurances in numbers happened during the first year and batch. Plus, the '3 Red Lights' light up for 3 reasons I think it is, and as I've said, my console did it to tell me my cables weren't secured in tight, whereas some peoples consoles do it and plain don't work. Unfortunate, I know, but every case I've read people have had time to go through with the warranty so it's all dandy.

Having my 360 fixer uppered now, that'll be my second. Got me thankin the lawd I took out the extended warranty.

I'd really like to know exactly what causes the 3 red lights of doom...
