Microsoft reacted to user backlash at the decision to not include a Hard Drive by providing two versions of XBox Next, one without a hard drive, keeping costs nice and low and one with A Hard Drive, to increase functionality for the more demanding XBox user.
XBox Next PC will be ready one year later and will also additionally offer a CD Burner, Wireless keyboard, mouse and controller and will connect to a high-definition TV or PC monitor. The PC version of the console will offer Media Center functionality so users will be able to view movies, music and photos, the device will also play most available PC games. Microsoft describes XBox Next PC as an XBox console with the added features of an entry level PC, without the possibility to upgrade the installed RAM or CPU.

wowow.

Not interested. Xbox console/pc. Not bad for a home entertainment system but xbox will get outdated with in half to 1 year. A high end pc doesnt get outdated to about 3 years. + pc can also view photos play movies, music and most console games + much much more.

I guess Microsoft's competition with Sony is going to flood over into more home-based applications. Sony are utlizing 'The Cell' power-source for the PS3, which if reports are still correct, can be augmented by other 'Cell-compatible' products. So you may purchase a DVD for example, with a Cell processor inside, and it will boost your PS3 performance (well, that is how i interpretted it).

It seems a pretty poor effort from Microsoft really, as although Sony and IBM seem to be aiming for the stars with their Cell technology, they seem like they could actually pull it off after all - if they do, the X-Box 2 would seem primitive to the processing power of a PS3, along with some other cell-compatible products.

I agree with Raziel. The Xbox is just becoming a cheap computer, but with less functionality than a real entry level computer. Soon they'll ship an Xbox version of windows and office Xbox for word processing etc.
I find this alittle wrong, leave the PC games for the pc. Not a brick next to the telly.

People said the same thing about Xbox '1', look where it is now.

Also, I don't care if people give an opinion, but if some random comes into a thread and says he's not interested, why does he go in in the first place ?

Where would Xbox be without Halo? Probably not very far... Oh, and he didn't just say he isn't interested, he added a valid point as to why the Xbox PC version may not be the best idea for many gamers. I'm fine with another normal xbox console, but turning it into a pc that doesn't seem to offer much upgradeability at the moment doesn't seem very practical to me.

Yeah I mean were would the xbox be without Halo? Or Ninja Gaiden or MechAssault or Chronicles of Riddick or Fable or KOTOR or orororororor...

More on the subject, I hope HD stays in. 3 versions? So that x game plays on y version? I think for a console that is stupid... Havent heard the details about them though so I might be wrong...

Seriously, the whole point of having a built-in hard drive on every XBOX (and the idea behind consoles themselves) was that the developers knew everyone had the same capabilities and could utilize them without cutting their market in half or even less by catering to the users that paid more for the HD just to use it in a couple of games. Making the HD optional and expensive is going to prevent innovation in console games... but who cares as long as Microsoft makes a few bucks, right?

When you have multiple versions of a console, you're contradicting the MAIN reason people get consoles. Console owners want easy and simple.....just plug it in & play. Consoles keep trying to move themselves closer & closer to PCs....and now it looks like there's one that's going to be basically a PC. Maybe console owners will realize this & just stay with PC.

Personally, I'm boycotting console games (and NOT pirating PC games)....not much of a boycott...but I want developers to make games for the PC.

Im looking forward to xbox 2. Got to play halo 3, fable 2 and kotor 3 on something right?

More likely to be a multimedia center without the problems and inconviniencies of a PC.

The reason it won't (probably won't) have problems is because you cannot install anything on it or do much on it. That's why mac's don't have problems....wait a sec, what did I just say?

;) Well the "PC" version could possibly make it. We all know why there's a lesser majority of PC gamers opposed to console gamers. It's all about the maintainence, the so called "PC" Xbox 2 version cannot be swapped of any sort of hardware. So it's pretty simple and has some capabilities of a PC, making it a bit more user friendly. I think of it as a PC illiterate's gateway to becoming PC literate, kinda. But in my opinion if I were to get an Xbox 2, the obvious choice is the one with Harddrive only.

I dont believe this rumor. An xbox pc would be great for downloading cracked versions of games, and microsoft does not want that. I think the hard disk is great, but unfortunately I believe it will not be a part of any xbox 2.

I sure hope its not going to be called XboX NeXt, thats just too many X's and it gets hard to pronounce.

Lol. Then why do I completely overhaul my rig every 6 months?

 Did you even read the article? There is a HD that comes with one of the versions of the Xbox 2

The full release schedule suggests that XBox Next and XBox Next HD will be released on or around fall 2005 while XBox Next PC will appear in fall 2006.

u said everything i wanted to say :)
it was bad enough Microsoft coming into the console market but now with this idea of expanding to PC games? argh...let me just ask one question, is there a person in the PC market who Bill Gates and his company haven't pissed off yet? :stare:

i think they should just stick to the console gaming market and not mess up whatever is left of the PC gaming market.

edit:

because u have money to burn? perhaps ur always upgrading to the wrong product... only u know.

i usually do one major upgrade every 3.5 years.. and in the time in-between, just a minor upgrade.. but even that i don't do.

For the people flaming me for posting. I came in to see what this 3 xbox stuff was. I then read it and was not interested in the product and preceded to explain why.
