300

Actually the battle at the end of the movie, where you see thousands of spartans? they lost that one too. It was the Athenians who destroyed the persian fleet. And it wasn't just 300 spartans who held off the persian army, there were a few thousand athenians and other greeks who fought as well.
Wrong, the Greeks won The Battle of Plataea.

I saw the film last Friday and it damn RULED. For some reason though the cinema that usually mistakes me for a student, the VUE, asked me for ID this time. Maybe because I shaved the night before? I dont know. But still, the cinema that asks 60 year old men for ID, the UGC, let me in this time without question. Weird, but still cool that I got in. :D

My Grandad has got it on pirate DVD at the moment so I copied it and watched it again like 3 million times. Mostly I was rerolling through the sex scenes cos everyone loves slo-mo tits jiggling while being done in the pooper xD

My final analysis is 300 the most ass-ruling movie I’ve seen this year, and will probably be the King of 2007 unless someone makes a movie where a pair of sentient boobs fights a werewolf.

I loved that quote from the review. F*cking sigged =].

Yeah, the movie was awesome, and I have it on my Zen Vision W. *the pirate DVD as well*. I figured I already seen it in theaters, I can download it now, and buy it later ;)

if you read what he said about the navy, he didnt say it was the spartans at all. and we all know that there wasnt just 300 spartans, even in 300 theres greek allies with them. However, only the Spartans and their helot slaves/squires stayed on the last day i think.

[edit] been said but already but they actually cleaned up at Plataea, what are you talking about?

I thought their 700 slaves/squires or whatever got killed fairly early on.

Anyway, who the hell went to see this movie expecting historical accuracy?

I went to see some major testicle growing awesomeness. And I received it ten fold.

finally saw it last night and HOLY SHIT! I wondered how they were going to handle the violence, and by the looks of it they just used a bunch of hobos as extras and actually stabbed them to death...

To be honest tho, all the scenes that werent at the hot gates seemed like a ridiculously bad soap opera to me, but it might have just been cos i was stoned at the time :)

Actually there was about 1000 other greeks who stayed and died with them.

The thousands of greek ALL eventaully backed out to regroup, and 300 stood because their leader was a religious fantatic, and believed it was his destiny to die there, and so did his 300 spartans, and so they did.

Directly from history channel, not a quote, but its what they said

Well, at least they took down a shitload of Persians with them.

it be a book, prolly just generalized the entire damned battle :p

The history channel that night was specifically about showing what was WRONG and what was RIGHT about the movie.

Did you just say a book was wrong and tv was right?

"However, a contingent of about 700 Thespians, led by general Demophilus, the son of Diadromes, refused to leave with the other Greeks, but cast their lot with the Spartans.[41] Unknown and unremembered by most, 900 Helots (Spartan slaves) died fighting alongside their masters in the last stand
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae#Final_stand_of_the_Spartans_and_Thespians

On the third day, Leonidas led his 300 Spartan hoplites (elite troops selected because they had living sons back home) plus the allied Thespians and Thebans against Xerxes and his army of "10,000 Immortals."
http://ancienthistory.about.com/cs/weaponswar/p/blpwtherm.htm

Although there were 300 Spartans present at the defence of Thermopylae, there were at least 4000 allies involved on the first two days and 1500 men involved in the fatal last stand. Still a tiny figure compared to the forces against them, but more than the legend which forgets some contributors.
http://europeanhistory.about.com/od/ancienteurope/a/histmyths2.htm

In the end, about a thousand other Greeks remained with the Spartans, including the loyal Thespians and the untrustworthy Thebans (the latter virtually hostages).

Can I stop now?

well the TV isnt exactly a normal channel, it is the multi million, hell even billion based tv channel? Well then, i guess they lied, and spew shit all over couple million people eh?

Hell, i dont even know if it was right, im just saying it was from the history channel, telling you where i got the quote :p

Or you heard it wrong :p. Also, check out my edit. I went through some trouble to get those links.

And yeah 6three... they pretty much kicked the mothalovin shit outta the Persians at Platea.

Haha, 6Three. Owned indeed.

Pretty impressive how they suffered so little casualties, even though they had a smaller force. Greeks pwned tbh. Persians were nubs and team stacked :D

yea that and heavy bronze armour plus phalanx owns people used to fighting in open deserts etc and have light armour and wicker shields :D

I forgot about those Thespians :( need to brush up on my classics :D

Seriously, its good, but nothing special.

The actual battle and history around it is far more interesting than the movie.

Oh God, please tell me someone here saw South Park last night.....

"THIS IS LESBOS!" *boot in the balls*

I loved it. Whenever I see the "Madness.... THIS IS SPARTA!" bit I wet myself. In a good way.

Saw it the other day. Pretty awesome, but exactly what I was thinking it would be - awesome.

Damn, I want to see this, but everyone around has seen it already and I don't want to go alone ><

Decent episode, the best part is when he tells the children he is a lesbian...i couldn't stop laughing.

Scissormetimbers

Anyway, I didn't understand what all the hype was about before this movie came out and I still don't understand it now that ive seen it, its decent...that is all.

300 saw the film awesome movie and great graphics i think its the best movie of the year if you ask me.

change your sig, for christ's sake, how do you screw that line up?

Awesome film - but with some real cheese. I'd like a heavily edited version, or, better yet, a version that deletes all the pointless bits inbetween the fighting and adds more fighting :)
