Microsoft has launched its Xbox 360 games console in Japan to what seems like a more subdued response than it received in Europe and North America.

A muted hello for the 360

hmmm...send the rest over here!

and in my local newspaper it said that "less than HALF of the units sent over there was sold over the weekend" (360 went on sale in Japan on Saturday), thats nonshens...

your thoughts?

Japanese are xenophobic to foreign commercial technology. Its no surprise.

hummmm.... It might have somthing to do with Sony, Most people in Japan are die hard Sony fans

They shouldn't have even bothered. Bring all those unused copies over here.

no, the same ...I think they're localized ..but hold on a second ..there is no shortage of xbox360's ..there never was, well technically yes, but Microsoft purposefully slowed down production 3 weeks before launch because shortages are great advertising ..it's the "it" item to have this christmas

I know this will sound stupid but what if the reason of the fact that there was not enough x360 for the USA launch, is because they where preparing it all for the japan launch?

if that is true I will laugh a lot to microsoft

no, there wasnt enough for the US launch because Microsoft didnt want there to be enough ..people lining up to be the first to get xbox360 is good advertising, you just cant beat word of mouth to drum up sales

but what i think they should have done was make enough, but only ship the amount they did, and ship the rest a week or 2 before christmas. so that you could get the hype and still have enough to get to people for christmas

Every other launch of every other highly desirable piece of technology has followed the exact same marketing pattern over the past decade. Is that enough proof or are you asking for leaked memos and stuff?

Still, selling nearly half of 'all stock sent over the weekend' isn't really 'bad,' is it?

well it is if you consider the hype of the X360 right around the world.
i'd like to see how the PS3 does on being available on opening weekend.

generally speaking, i think Sony's and Nintendo's products get more international love.

Does it matter if it sells a lot in Japan? The initial launch sales has nothing to do with how good the product is but how good marketing was.
