Aparently people are nearing the 15,000 point level with 3D Mark 03, so Futuremark are releasing a new benchmark that will be a struggle for the latest machines.

It isn't built for DX10 or Longhorn - it's the last one to fill the gap. It also has a dedicated ShaderModel 3.0 benchmark, God knows it'll look gorgeous... probably the only regret I have for ordering an X800 XT Platinum instead of a 6800 ultra.

Oh well :)

Sorry for saying this but buying 6800 ultra just for futuremark is stupid.

There is nothing special that SM 3.0 can do that SM 2.0 can't. It is for performance reasons. Even then, if a game developer isn not careful, SM 3.0 can become slower than SM 2.0.

Yeah it is, but it is also a very good card. I don't think 3D mark 2005 will support SM2.0b either which is a kick in the groin for ATi - and it's eye-candy-loving performance-gamer customers.

Not to worry though, it's only a benchmark... and i'm sure there'll be plenty of people uploading hi-res pictures onto forums for us :)

2005?...i just saw beta pics for 2004 a few days ago..

Could be 2004 - but 3Dmark 2003 came out in mid 2002 if I remember correctly, so I don't know. Someone's probably made a typo somewhere.

Anyone got any screenshots of this?

If so could you link them here? I can't find them and someone said they've seen/got some.

Thanks

Thanks GPRT, so it is 04 after all :)

Them screens on page 2 look absolutely amazing, can't wait to see them in realtime :D

No probs,

Is it just me or does the sea monster on page2 look like the one the BBC have been using for it's olympic campaign??
Oh and apparently the systems that are scoring 12000+ on 3dmark 03 will get about 1200-1500 in 04/05

Who said they were buying a 6800 ultra just for a benchmark?

No one buys a 6800 ultra just for bencmarks. If you noticed the 6800 ultra is actually slower then the x800 xt in most cases. And even sometimes with sm3.0 is enabled is can be slower then x800 xt. Although nvidia has fixed a lot of the issues since the initial release they are now starting to lead the x800 xt in a couple of games depending what drivers you are using.

3dmark2005 just doesnt add sm3.0

The inquirer even said in some cases it favors nvidia and in some cases it favors ATI.

Dont mean to upset anyone but why is everyone pissing all over 3.0. Its been stated many times that is going to be used in many popular games. And I know in some cases that 2.0b can actually be faster then 3.0. Is this bencmark not proof enough that 3.0 will be beneficial in games? The list the nvidia released a couple days ago that included stalker which everyone is looking forward to. Vampire: Bloodlines, Splinter Cell 3, Metal of Honor: Pacific Assault, are among others that are going to have it. And my bet is that all of those games will be blockbuster games.
I have no idea if doom 3 uses it or not because it wasnt one of the games I was really following, but patches for half life 2 and farcry will include it also. So most people are right that we wont see sm3.0 untill december at earliest when most of the games mentioned above are released.
