As it wasnt for DN it was right to cancel it...sure fans have been waithing FOREVER (hehe - nice pun) but...thats life...3D Realms def. dont want a mod out-ranking their game that has been in the pipeline for years...

It's not that the mod would outrank it, that would be very unlikely regardless of the general opinion of 3D realms. It's the principal, if they don't defend it, then everyone will think they can get away with it. That will then move to other games, and within a short time copyright and IP will mean nothing, money will start to be lost in much greater amounts and the whole industry will just think "**** it, mod makers are screwing us, lets stop making our games modable"

That's not the point little zombie. Someone takes their ideas that they have worked on and uses a different game engine. Now to play the mod you need to buy HL2, someone's making money.

It's their right, and it's there to be inforced.

It's the principal, if they don't defend it, then everyone will think they can get away with it.

Wasnt defending it but...a lot of us use existingn HL2 files and resources for editing...so...should we be stopped? No - that would kill the fan base community..BUT because they were porting a game, they should definately be stopped...LucasArts did cancel a fan mod for Monkey Island and fair enough but lets hope that not all companies do this...

If you are using one games ideas for another game then you get what you deserve really.

Hate to break it to these fellas, but take a number. I think FOX alone shut down half a dozen mod wannabes. Not your idea, so don't complain. Besides, it's not that hard to come up with something on your own--even if it's in the same vein(See Serious Sam).

And if you're gonna make a parody, make it because you want to give a satirical viewpoint on the machismo Duke persona, not because you just want to squeeze Duke IP out of 3DR.
