3rd gen iPod

A few months ago my 3rd gen iPod started losing nearly all its charge. The past few weeks it would barely play songs for 30 mins without running out of battery (and this was from a full charge!) so I looked around the internet and ordered a replacement battery from iPodupgrade.net, promising 175-200% more charge than the original battery had (and this is compared to the stock battery when new). Just sucessfully completed the installation, and while it was a bit fiddly, it seems to have gone alright. I mean sure neither iTunes or Winamp can currently access the songs on it, but you can access it as a hard drive and im being told all it needs is to be reset to factory settings. A small price to pay for an extra 5-6 hours of battery life from one charge

I'd reccommend ipodupgrade.net to any europeans with iPod battery problems, or simply seeking to get more listening time out of their existing iPods. They do batterys for 1-4G ipods (including ipod colours) and also mini ones. Just incase anyone else has iPod battery troubles.

Thank you! I have the same prob, I own a 3rd generation 20 gig iPod. Is the battery I should get? (http://ipodupgrade.net/product_detail.php?productId=45321820). Is it easy to replace the battery by yourself? Also so the iPod doesn't detect iTunes again? Does the battery life degrade as quick as the iPod 3rd does? Thanks.

Yeah, I have the same model iPod as you (3g 20gig), and thats the same battery I got. Postage to the UK is free as well, I belive. If you look at the instruction video it should give you an idea as to how hard it is. The only parts that gave me difficulty were the opening of the case (i ended up sliding an old credit card under the metallic side before I could get their tool in), and the replacement of the hard drive connector (as the connector itself is quite small and fiddly) but other than that it was pretty straightforward. Nothing too complicated.

I dont know about battery life degrading though. I can imagine it will over time, as most batterys do, but I doubt the degredation will be as fast as the original iPod batterys, what with all the extra capacity it has. My original battery managed to degrade from 5-6 hours to 30 mins in just over a year, but I dont think this will be the case with this battery. The only real alternative is to send your iPod back to Apple to get the battery replaced with another 'official' one, but that costs like £80 and you dont even get all the extra charge.

iTunes did recognise the iPod, it just said that it had to be restored to original factory settings, which I did, and now its working just fine. So before you actually install a new battery, I would recommend backing up your music to your computer, if you dont have the original copies on it already.

Ah you're welcome. I'm just glad to be of assistance to someone else with a screwed iPod battery. Lucky Americans, getting all their 3rd gen batterys replaced for free. I wish we had courts like them lol.

Edit: Just gave the iPod a thorough testing, and audio and everything else seems to be working like new. If anything, I'd say it now goes louder than it did with the old battery, even when new. I'm very impressed with this battery. Now all that remains is to find out how long it takes to drain from a full charge.
