4.1 vs 5.1 vs 6.1 vs 7.1

Has anyone used more than one or two of these speaker configurations? Can you actually tell the difference?

If you don't know, I believe the setups are like this:

Correct me if I'm wrong... So if you've had any of these, can you really tell the different between them?

I believe that in 5.1 the 5th speaker is behind you. (rear center)

Well, something to keep in mind is that, afaik, nothing is programmed or recorded in more than 5.1, so you're probably not gonna notice TOO much differnece.

In 5.1 the 5th speaker is the front center.
