at current i have the following specification:

Windows media Center 2005
3200AMD XP
1024 DDR RAM
Sapphire X800 PRO

as you can see its not a bad rig, so why am i getting memory errors.

after doing a bit of research i feel that it might be somthing to do with the power supply at current i am using the above rig with a 280 Power Supply, Within the next few days i will be getting a new Power Supply, I will plug it in and see if any issues such as the memory errors have gone.

i will also be getting some new case fans. If my problems are resolved i will know it was either a over heating problem or more likely a PSU problem. I will post my results within the next few days.

If you think i am talking s*** please post your specification and powersupply and say if you are recieving memory errors.

I need more information, mabye i am talking rubbish but i need proof.

cheers and get posting. theres still hope without sacraficing ram

Theres really no way it could be your power supply.

The power supply just.. Supplies power. If it cant supply enough your comp will probably freeze up or reboot. Has nothing to do with how the ram is operating at that level.

oh and by the way, my brother has a 300w ps
amd xp 2000+
Geforce 4 ti4200
2 hard drives, 2 cd burners and too many case fans. and he gets no skippage.

Either way I'm certain you need a much more powerful PSU with that setup! :O My bro's computer with a 9800 Pro 128MB had tonnes of problems with a 300W PSU, and they've pissed off now he bought a 450W one.

yes, A new ps will help, i forgot to mention that.

but it probably will not fix your memory problems..

To see if you are really having a memory related issue, and not just a software or other hardware issue, run Memtest (found at http://www.memtest86.com/). It will run a set of extensive checks on your memory -- if your system finished test 5 (you do not need to run ALL of the tests -- that would take hours!), you do NOT have an issue with your memory, and any errors you get are NOT related to your power supply giving low or inconsestent voltage to the memory chips -- which is I assume why you are trying to fix a memory error by replacing the power supply. Good luck, and let us know if the PSU replacement fixes it.

A bad, going bad, or underpowered PSU can cause many different problems. Memory errors, reboots, it can even corrupt saved data on a hard drive (don't ask me how). There was a case a few weeks back where a guy had a 6800 GT and was getting a lot of screwed up textures and fuzzy lines all over his screen. Someone suggested he swap power supplies and get a better one, he did and the problem was non-existant.

Memory errors

not saying this is true, but hope it helps

please post the exact error.. i might be able to help you.. i've had something similar

lol its a "read memory error 0000034x102398" or somthing along those lines

amd xp 2500+ @ 3200+
GEiL 512mb ddr pc 3200.
GeCube 9800 xt 128mb.
win xp pro - sp2.

i have a 500w power supply, it's not the problem.

The error isn't (necessarily) related to memory. It is just giving the address in the RAM where the problem code is loaded.

Here is the solution for the load failure with no error. There is in fact an error and it has to do with memory. You may or may not be receiving the following error message.

The instruction at "0x2406dd69" referenced memory at "0x01befacc". The memory could not be "read."

Here is the fix:

First location:

Right click your Half Life 2 icon on your desktop (the one you would normally double-click to launch the game). Then click Properties. Click the Shortcut Tab. In the line labeled Target, you will see something like this, depending on where you put the program when you installed it:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 22

Copy and paste the following AFTER the above line:

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Be sure there is a space between -applaunch 22 and +mat

Click save and you are ready to go.

Second location:

From the Steam Play Games Menu, right click on Half Life 2. Choose Properties, then click Launch Options. Paste the following in the box.

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Click Ok and you are ready to go.

Do the same fix for Half Life 2 Deathmatch and Counter Strike Source.

Offline and Online Mulitplayer modes will should all work now.

Good Luck!!!

That is not enough Power for that Video Card 300W minimum. All kinds of nasty things can happen when you don't have enough Power.
