Everyone here just think about it for a second, only but four months ago hardly anyone knew that Half-life 2 even existed...

I mean, everyone thought valve could have been working on something but, they also had lots of stuff going on like Dod retail, counter-strike and updating Hl1. I remeber I was kinda wondering if they were working on something but, I never thought they had been working on Hl2 since the the release of hl1 5 years ago.

Then all of a sudden in april and may Hl2 exploaded into the gaming world. All of a sudden people starting "Doom 3?, whats Doom 3?" but everyone knew about Half-Life 2.

I think the thing that shocked me most of all was hearing that it was to be released in september of THIS YEAR!

Games like Condition Zero, or Doom 3 starting having fotage being released year or two ago but, the either haven been delayed or are not going to be released for a while.

If half-life 2 holds true to its release date then that would be only like 6 months from when we knew about it to when we could play it. That is a very short time.

I liked it because its kinda boring to watch games slowly grow...

In hl2, all the stuff kinda hit you like a brick wall, so you didn't know what to think.....

My point is..... uhhhhhhh..... i have no point and i will now quit my rambling.....

Well... I agree. For me, everything began when I saw that picture of crowbar, which forms 2 with shadow. I went "holy shit, can't be real". Well, then screenshots came in (one with aliens) and I didn't like it at all. I thought it was a joke, some kind of new game that based on Starship world. Looked like crap to me. Anyway... but when other screenshots and e3 videos came out, I fell from a chair. It already feels like I am waiting for a whole year for this game to be released. If only I had more self-control...

At first I saw it in an ad on the ATI site. I though "HL2? There is no way it could be better then the first one unless they put in some big ass 50 foot aliens that shoot space-deforming energy beams." And then when I saw the screenshot with the Strider, I was like "oh shit". I think I stared at it for 10 minutes.

Heheh Reak that sounds like me. I watched the tech demo from E3 about 20 times over before I could actually accept it was real :p

After I just watch the strider part of the E3 vid for the 30th time, i just realized what dod would be like if there was a map like that City where you had tanks..... I started drooling.... all the posibilites like running for you life away from a Tiger tank when all of a sudden you see a huge explosion rumble infront of you and half a building collaspes..... .......... ............ ....... :)

There's a thread on Planet Half-Life's forums which dates back to about-mid April. In it someone said very sternly that Half-Life 2 was not in production, and it made sense. There had been no solid evidence that Half-Life 2 was being made. The only thing suggesting it was the occasional hint by the developers and the people who said they had a friend whose uncle's best friend's nephew had an inside source at VALVe confirming it's existance.

As for me, I nearly wet myself when I saw the HL2 crowbar ad.

Yeah I will upgrade too just because of HL2. I might even get a 9800 cause I don't wanna miss ANY of the effects.

Now that I really think about it, the thing that drew me to Half-Life 1 the most was the atmosphere...

Sure, the gameplay was good, but one of my favorite things to do in a game is to be sorta like a detective... I really don't like the fight so much as I like exploring. Dont get me wrong you still need action now and then. Like when I would come into a area in Hl 1 and see like 3 dead sientists and blood all over the walls with the whole room in shambles, I would be like what the hell happend here!?! Then after checking out the place, I would come to some conclusion that 4 monster came through he and took out everything and sometimes I would be right....

And this is where H-L 2 comes in.... After watching the e3 vids, I very much like the approach they took in making the maps/areas. Like for example in the one part where you could controll the aliens, before he started looking in the holes, he passed by a controll room that had windows cracked and and blood smeared all over the walls and glass. If I were I would have gone striaght into that room to see what the hell happend.

Another example is the very last action sequence.... Its really cool how the strider attacks, but I think I would like it better if you could wander around the city just looking for weapons or survivors... it would be really cool to find someone who had lived in that mess for months and survived just to hear their story like a movie.... If you guys have seen the movie 28 days later... then it would be similar to that, but with the city really ****ed up!

Yep, I loved every bit of that detective work. For example, in the E3 video you see a bunch of burned civilian cars next to an APC. Maybe the resistance set up an ambush or a road block and attacked the APC occupants? Maybe it was the other way around? It really gets you thinking, like a good book.

Exactally man , 5 months ago when you mentioned Half-Life 2 it was a joke the likes of Duke Nukem Forever. Now its the real deal. I never expected HL2 to be in development and now the days go by so slowly on their way to October 1. I cant wait ... cant wait at all....

I believed the rumour that got leaked a year or so after the hl1 release. I always believed that hl2 was in the make so I was really exited when the rumor got confirmed.

Well I mean... it's like if you watch the first LOTR movie all the way through without knowing anything about it at first... of course you can see that they have to elaborate on what happened at the end of HL... you just dunno wtf it's gonna be, or when you'll see it.

lol I remember seeing the crowbar scan in the svencoop forum, then someone edited it to a chubby :D

then came the screenshots, and the fainti...... erh yeah.

I always knew there would be a Half Life 2.. mostly because someone on the team mentioned something about things not making it in Half life due to time and hardware restrictions.. this alone is a sign they want to make a sequel.. I was pretty excited when they finally announced it's coming out in Sept, but after this long delay with a simple video it's starting to worry me.. if HL2 gets delayed til next year, my enthusiasm will have deteriated and I will be more looking forward to the already mentioned Half life 3... I am here on little sleep after playing alot of CS 1.6, so if my spelling sucks, too bad.

I knew that there HAD to be a HL2 once I completed Half-Life. After all, the ending left too many unanswered questions.

When I first saw the crowbar image I thought, "Could it be real? Could this be the announcement of the game that I've waited for for nearly 5 years?" Surely enough, the screens got leaked, then I thought "OMG, this can't be real!"

After seeing all the media and reading all the previews, I have to say that HL2 has surpassed all my expectations. In my opinion this will be the greatest gaming experience ever. Without question or doubt.

I don't care how long it'll take or what anyone says, I have complete faith in Valve.

First my heart started banging fast, then my body started shaking, then i started to cry... ahhh what a moment that was.

I remember when that crowbar ad came out. It seemed like half the people were saying, "OMG!!!! IT'S HALF-LIFE 2!! THAT'S THE HALF-LIFE CROWBAR AND IT'S SHADOW MAKES A 2!" and the other half were like, "How do you figure? It's just a picture of a stupid crowbar. Don't get your hopes up." Then there was that absolutely classy press-release from Valve that simply said, "Half-Life 2 will be on display at this year's E3." Then the magazine articles got leaked and made their way across the internet faster than "All your base are belong to us!" Then the E3 videos came out and reduced the gaming masses into a drool induced fenzy of anticipation and speculation. It's hard to believe that all this has happened in a little over four months and that we'll get to finally see it for ourselves in a little less than three!

lol, all the hardware companies really owe valve, thousands and thousands of people across the globe are upgrading their comps just for HL2!
I remember the first pic I saw of HL2, I was just bored as hell, checking out planet half life, and I saw the screen with the combine soldier fighting the ant lion in the orange hall, and I was thinking this can't be a game, it's too realistic. Then I saw all the other pics and I nearly had a seizure. After I had watched the 600mb video for about the 20th time, I realized it was time to get rid of my Radeon 7000 if I wanted gfx like that :p

i agree with you Sushi, NiVada and Radon should be kissing Valves feet right now. They have been making really good graphics cards but really no good games to really "test" them. Now with games like HL2 and Doom 3, it's going to make Radon and Nivada push themselves to outdo the other company for the best graphics card which will inevitably result in better graphics cards, FASTER! ahhh "competition makes the world go round"

When the first screenshots and scanned articles got leaked onto the internet I was SURE it was a hoax. I really didn't want to get my hopes up so I tried not to... Of course that didn't work at all and I did my best to try and find everything that I could. Oh baby...

Aaw, en't this thread great? We're getting all nostalgiac about it and it's not even out yet - just think what we'll be like come November or whatever... :E Gotta love it!

Damn you people are stupid! It's pure idiocy to upgrade your computer because of one lousy game that doesn't even look good.

...

/me starts saving money for a new videocard

;)

Men that would cost you 2000$ + in Europe!!..the radeon 9800 pro costs 525$ here...aaaar that's what you get whith that protected economy..i believe mercedes benz is more expensive in the US but that's already expensive here :(...
Hmm seems to be that we Europeans have more money to spend then again..

Wanted to spread my upgrade..payed 650$(nearly same as €'s) for an asus p4pe mobo 512 ddr ram and a p4 2.66 a few months ago..now i'll need to buy that radeon 9800,9700 pro a lot sooner :(

Never heard something of HL2 before E3 2003..even forgot e3 was taking place till suddenly i saw al the new material..that was fun of course...only once heard a rumor on a local board in my country a few months ago..

Brand new state of the art gaming machine: $2000

Being able to run Half-Life 2 in all of its glory: Priceless

One month ago I wouldn't even think of upgrading my comp. I have P4 [email protected], 512 RAM and GF 4200.

And then came HL-2 vids from E3.

And I was shocked.

And now I'm scraping some $$$ for a FX 5600 card (I don't want to miss anything !!) and maybe a new CPU as well. Damn, this game will be great and think of the mods...yummy.

Just to hijack this thread, (like it had a point anyway), but i dont think dod should add vehicals. Frankly if they make a DOD2, i cant see any way it will be different from say mohaa mp. Can you pinpoint why dod is better than mohaa? Other than 'it runs smoother' or 'cant belive how good they have the hl1 engine running. If they start adding vehicals, it will be pretty much the same as battlefield.

I hope they do make dod2, but i hope for the love of god there are no drivable vehicals.
